Grenade VS Natural
« on: February 13, 2011, 03:18:02 AM »

Going to be getting a urethane soon, and have decided it will be between these two as the Visionary Ogre and Brunswick Avalanche both seem to be aimed at totally fried lanes, and that's not what we have. We have a longer, lighter pattern with dry outside of the eighth board.

Just looking for a straight comparison from people who may have thrown/used/owned both of these pieces.

"Yeah, I throw AMF. What's it to ya"?

Avalanche urethane is much more ball than the original natural... these are the only 2 recent urethanes ive seen in person.

My Natural is stronger than my Grenade. Natural has a little more cover and block that have it starting a foot earlier and moving a little more on the back end. Natural has the pin below the bridge cg kick about a 5x4 1000ab out a little. Grenade is stack at 4x4 with a low hole 2000ab.

I'm a guy who mainly uses roto/storm and brunswick, but that seismic urethane ball looks like the best one to me and might be just what you're looking for.

My personal read on them is that the Natural starts quicker, but is a little flatter on the back. The Natural is a good piece, but the Grenade is a little more usable IMO. I also REALLY like the Natural Pearl.

Just bought a used grenade. After pitch/span plug, first set :237, 279,267=783. On white#2 pattern.

I moved a total of 3 boards with my feet the whole set. I don't know which is best but I like my grenade.

I remember trying the Natural when it first came out.  Was a weak drilling and the ball acted a lot like my Slate U-Dot that I still carry around.  Got a Avalanche Urethane recently and it is a lot of ball.  Drilled stacked it has a quick reaction to the dry and is only a couple boards weaker than my Power Groove.  I really like the Avalanche Urethane and have scored well with it when I have thrown it.  If I had to do all over again, since I have a lot of hand, I would have gone pin down with it to try and control the reaction off the dry.

I have both the Natural and the Avalanche Urethane.  I have to say that the Avalanche is the better ball for me and its not limited to dry lane conditions.  The Rhino lightbulb core in the whole Avalanche line matches up with my game and I find it's a versatile ball which I can play on a THS shot with confidence.

The Natural just did not give me the same consistent reaction (although it's probably due to operator error ).  I'm planning on bringing the Natural along with me during practice sessions this week and will do some direct comparisons with the Avalanche Urethane.

I am curious though, about the comparison of the Grenade as versus either the Natural or the Avalanche Urethane.

Grenade is a little longer and a little stronger on the backend then the Natural. The AU is stronger than both (at the same surface). The Hype Urethane is stronger than all 3, but is very difficult to polish.

Hope this helps,
