RSX - Anything like it out now?
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:14:21 PM »
I'm looking for a replacement for my old trusty RSX.  Obviously covers have gotten stronger over the past 2 years, but what in the current lineup would have the same general reaction.

For me the RSX really didn't end up being the medium-heavy ball like advertised.  But it does work great on med-light to med-heavy when polished.  Very versatile for me, 1st out of the bag, and sometimes the only ball I'll use in a set.  Mine flares a bunch, goes long and turns the corner hard.  I play on a 38' THS, on the lighter side with clean backends generally.  Never had my rev rate or speed measured, but I'm probably in the 300rpm range with higher than average ball speed.  I usually play between 3rd and 4th arrow out to 8 or so.

I just drilled up a horizon solid and love the reaction, should be pretty close to RSX once you polish it.

???????

The core on the Horizon is significantly lower than that of the RS-X. So, If, and this is a BIG iF, the coverstocks were identical, the Horizon would still be noticably earlier and thus, smoother. NOT the same or even similar. Equivalent, but not the same.

Just try to find another RS-X.

I wouldn't say the numbers are significantly lower on the Horizon. HS is 2.47 and .52 vs 2.49 and .59 on the RSX. THe Horizon Solid was the replacement for the RSX and while there not the same I think with the same finish the Horzion solid will have a strong midlane and smooth downlane reaction very similar to what you see in the RSX.

I'll add a different opinion.  If you can't find an RSX, consider a Mystic.  I had an RSX and used it extensively.  The Horizon Solid has a stronger cover than the RSX so even polished it never could turn the corner for me like the RSX (which was cleaner).  The HS worked on heavier volumes but hooked a little early as the mids broke down.

The Mystic is a stronger ball overall, but it will give you that overall versatility and ability to turn the corner like the RSX.  And since it's pearl particle, you get a similar read as a polished solid.  The Mystic has been to me what the RSX was to me.  First out of the bag, longest ball used throughout the day, and ability to play anywhere on the lane.
