Cell cleaning
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:08:57 AM »
Getting ready to buy a new Cell, but worried about upkeep. Seeing reviews about the ball is dieing after about 40 games or so. I have a Hammer No Mercy now and can't keep it acting as it should. I.E. Clean. What can I really expect down the line/ time wise from the Cell. When I find a ball that works for me I like to keep it for a long time. Should I look at other balls that may not suck up so much oil and give me more consistency? Really  don't a super strong ball as I bowl THS most of the time.
Thanks

The Cell will last longer than most balls, with proper cleaning!Don't be afraid to buy the best ball released in 40 years! The Cell isn't just about hook,it's mostly about control and breakpoint forgiveness.

HORSESH*T!

Be careful to whom you listen. Be vewy careful!!
There are a lot of ignorant dipwads herein from whose voice coils issue forth sheer and unadulterated poppycock at regular intervals!

The NoMercy and other premium Ebonite-made coverstocks whose reaction depends on SIGNIFICANT oil absorption rates are much more problematical, with respect to oil absorption and loss of performance than a Cell will ever be!!!

FYI, a biG, FREAKING,
FYI
The Cell's coverstock is intentionally designed to absorb less oil and to retain performance over a longer period of time than the average medium-heavy oil ball. BUT that does not mean you can avoid cleaning the ball, after each and every use. You should do that for every ball in your bag.

This is coming from a Cell user that has more or less 200+ games on the ball. I clean my Cell with Storm's Reacta Clean as advertised on the Roto Grip site religiously after every set. I give it a hot water bath every now and then to keep the reaction sharp and sweet. I have yet to see an end result that does not amaze me with quite, simply, the BEST bowling ball I've ever bought in my life. Keeping it clean off the lane, you can rest assured that it'll keep the pin deck clean ON the lanes... Hope this helps!

I've used just about every cleaner and polish on the market and have experimented with every different surface imaginable. I've never had a ball die on me, Ebonite or anyone else. I've noticed a change in reaction or maybe a ball didn't seem as strong as before but not totally die. For those that have the time: On a dull ball, use the Scotch Brite or Abralon pad grit of choice, wet the pad and use Clean N Dull. Make sure the pad isn't too wet or you'll get a soapy lather and will dilute the CND too much. Do half the ball at a time, normal pressure on the pad, take a wet rag and go over and dry with a clean microfiber towel. As soon as you do the first half of the ball, you'll see the difference. On a shiny ball, do the same with a sponge or the back of an abralon pad. You may have to rub some stubborn belt marks a little to get them out.
For those that don't have the time: Dull ball, get a bottle of Neo-tac Hook It and some paper towels and simply spray onto the paper towel and do half the ball, avoid getting it on your grips or slug, and wipe clean with another paper towel. On a shiny ball, do the same with Neo-Tac Renew It, which removes belt marks off a shiny ball better than anything else IMO. You can use Renew It as a cleaner or a polish.
All the companies make great polishes and cleaners, and this is what works best for me. My Cell has over 200 games on it and looks and reacts like new. A 2000 abralon pad and Clean N Dull and five minutes to do it. Hope this helps ya!
