Epic or Ultimate Inferno
« on: November 07, 2005, 04:47:47 AM »
Has anyone thrown both of these balls, and how do they compare?  I'm considering both of these, and from watching two friends have great success with the UI doing a mild swing, that ball seems really good at still turning the corner in carrydown on synthetic lanes with a med-hvy oil THS.  You can really see this ball rev up hard right before the break point, which is what I'm looking for.  However, I still have this urge to give Rotogrip a try.  Is the Epic the right Roto ball that would compare to the UI, with the same type of rev characteristics and recovery?  Btw, I really think that the RSP is a GREAT looking ball.  Any drilling suggestions for the reaction I'm interested in?

I'd drill the Epic or the RSP w/ your favorite drill and give Roto a try!

You won't be dissapointed!  Great mid priced equipment, not TOO many balls to choose from ...and you can cover just about any condition you need to cover w/ a Roto ball.........

Drill one up!

I had to shine the rsp alot to calm it down, box finish is very very strong in oil, even shined it cuts through carrydown very well. I just got Epic last night i am leaving work early tomorrow to try it on some oil, since my league tomorrow is 2nd shift and my first shift league is tuesday nights.

Tomorrow on medium oil i will be comparing Rotogrip Epic, RSp, Silver streak SE, Dynothane Pure energy , Hammer Hawg Wild so it will be interesting to see head to head what handles the mediums better without too much carrydown.

My best luck with medium/heavy with carrydown is swing a Hammer HAwg drilled 4 x 4 pin below finger line, i can swing this ball like i have hand but really dont.

mrbowlingnut,

It would be good to hear your comparisons on these balls also, along with what drilling each has.

Thanks littleblackbug.  That's the kind of info I need, especially since you added your drill specs.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to give Roto a try instead of the UI, and go with either the Epic or RSP (nice reviews on this one), and maybe the SS-SE as well if I have the bucks.  Ryan's videos can be pretty darn convincing and hard to resist.

I have both the Epic and RSP and I would definately recommend the RSP. It is much stronger and more consistent than the EPIC. Then I do not do well for some reason with asymertical balls for som reason.. But the RSP has hit and plenty of continuation. I pre-bowled yesterday after the Saturday youth league and shot 245, 300, 256 for 801. My first 300 and my first 800. And this was with the RSP with a high polish on it. Definately go with the RSP, you will not be disappointed.... Good Luck!!!

I wrote a 4 paragraph post then ballreviews froze up on me, too make it short Epic is a good ball , the rsp does the same thing and is slightly stronger in box finish for less money. It sucks that my comparisons did not post because i had the Epic, trifecta, pure energy, hawg wild and silver streak se side by side yesterday morning.

Epic layout is as follows pin under ring cg and mb at 45 degrees pin is 4 1/4 to pap cg is around 3 inches and mb is about 6 inches in strong position 2 inches right of thumb.

Rsp pin under ring near midline and cg kicked out 40 degrees in box this is a monster for the money, i have it polished and it is still strong.

Ryan is correct ssse is one of the most angular balls i have ever thrown stronger than the apocalypse and is more of a mediums ball. I do not see it for heavier shots but it will be a ball to play insides lines more. I tried playing it from outside and barely clipped the head pin as it went brooklyn. I moved inside and the ball was in its element, it likes to be swung out and back. Layout on SSSE is pin under ring cg out at 30 degrees and probably a 4 x 2 1/2 would be very close without measuring exacts.

To be honest, I have yet to throw anything Roto Grip, though it has been suggested to me by my Pro Shop who does all my work for my bowling. This is in defense of UI.
I have had nothing but great success with my UI, it hits hard and lasts. Haven't hit an 800 series yet (750), but have a couple of 3's, (2) 299's, and various other high marks. May look at Roto Grip eventually, will give my impressions later.
