RS-X and Ultra Sonic

Can you go from the RS-X directly to the Ultra Sonic if the RS-X starts hooking too much? Or do you need something in between them?

Trying to figure out a good 3-4 ball arsenal for someone on a budget.

RS-X (sanded to 800)
Ultra Sonic (polished to 1500)
Sonic X Pearl or Solid (polished to 2500-3500)
Spare Tire (Polished to 3500)

Would this work or are there gaps?

I would go to an RS1 be fore the ultra, but it depends on your style and ball drilling. Ric that should be included if you are going to ask for advice. But just on ball to ball reaction. I would go with an RS1 then a Ultra.

most of the information about his style is in his profile RotoT...don't take this rude, just trying to help.

as far as your question Ric, i think RotoT is right, for what the balls are supposed to do in comparison to each other...rsx to ultra sonic might be a bit far apart, unless the rsx is drilled maybe a bit weak, and the ultra strong...then it might work, but rs1 would be a nice fit in between the two.

I've said this before and I'll say it again....

The RSX / RS1 combo is probably the best 1-2 punch available for the money hands down! Big, arcing, predictable and strong solid / pearl !!

RS1
Ultra or Super

$280 before drilling! can't beat it!

Ric,
  I would think that you could step down to the Ressurection, no problem.  Although I am sure that you would have to move a few boards right.  But for me, I wouldn't look to try to make the RSX(whenever I get one) compliment my RS-1, because my RS-1 has midlane like no other, if I drill up the RS-x in the same manner, I think that after my line is done with the RS-X there would be nothing left for my RS-1, I think that I would just go to my ressurection.  I think that the best 1-2 combo, is the either the RS-1 or Rs-x and the ressurection.  Just my opinion.

Jeff,
  The layout that I have on my RS-1 isn't one for covering boards, its for a strong midlane move.  With this ball you can't just keep moving left, especially if there are other big pieces playing the same area of the lane, it reads wayyy to early.

This is kind of what I was talking about. What the above poster said.

Because if you think about it... if you are using your RS-X for a few games and it becomes too strong say in the midlane and backend, then if you step down to the RS-1, then that ball will be too strong also wouldn't it? So therefore, it would be better to just go down to the Ultra Sonic it seems?

Normally, with similar drillings, the pearl equivalent of a solid is not the next step down when the solid becomes too early or too strong. So, logically, when a strong ball like the RS-X becomes too much, a ball like the Ultra-Sonic or Super-Sonic would the normal or average go-to ball.

are you out of your mind??? no way. the ultra is a weak ball by comparsion to the original black.

the next step down would be a retro resurrection, or better yet a silver streak black original. then start to talk about supers or ultras.

tonight i drilled daniel an RS-X and the ball flares 7+ inches just as advertised. it's about 5 to 7 boards stronger than the SSblack was.

oh i wouldn't count out the ultra at all. it's an awesome ball. but the RS-1 is a pearl and it is skidish a bit in oil, and with that much flare 7+ inches possible it can be over under for some. the ultra is so clean through the heads and smooth in the backends. it's a combination of the super and sonic boom's best attributes.

Ric to answer your question I would reccomend this...and you can use the same cover preperations if I don't put any, and this is assuming that they are a league bowler and occasionaly bowl in tourneys with a house shot.

RS-X or RS-1 drilled with pin close to the PAP(see my prof. for pics.  layed out like this the ball can handle its own in oil, forget that its pearl)

Super Sonic(1500 polish) Ultra is VERY sensitive to carrydown

Sonic Pearl(box finish)

Spare tire(but if this person can get away from a plastic ball or even get a cheap ol' white dot, a Ressurection will fill the slight gap between the RS-X and Super Sonic.

You keep leaving 9pins? um, sounds like your ball is finishing too hard in the backends, like your angle of entry is too wide.  if that's the case try to avoid skid snap drillings. go for something more smooth on the ball.

i'd go with RS-1
try it in box finish if it finishes too hard break off the box surface and re polish at a slightly lower grit.
