RST X-2 or Rubicon UC2
« on: November 02, 2021, 08:58:58 AM »
Hello everyone,

I am building a 6-ball tournament arsenal and can't choose between the X-2 and UC2. I would like to have one of these fit between my Phaze 2 and RST X-1. Some suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I'll preface this by saying that I haven' owned either of these. However, that being said, I actually think there is probably room for both in your arsenal if you wanted them. I think that the RST-X2 would be the better choice to go between your X1 and Phaze II, and then the UC2 could fit under your Phaze II.

Even though both the X2 and UC2 are asym pearls, I think that there is a pretty significant strength difference there with the X2 being quite a bit stronger by nature. The UC2, from everything I've seen, is a good ball for transition as you need to start opening up your angles late in the day/block. The X2 seems more like a stronger asym that you go to when your big ball starts reading a bit too early, and you want a similar look without having to totally jump zones.

Again, that's just my take. I have NOT thrown these. However, that goes along with what I've seen of these balls in person and/or on video. Good luck!

I have both and they are subtly different shapes. Both are quick on friction, the cover/core on the X2 is stronger but generally I would say there’s way too much overlap in a six ball arsenal and it would be rare for one to work when the other doesn’t. Both fit into that Medium/Angular spot in the bag so pick one.

I'll definitely defer to you here, Morpheus since I haven't thrown either one. I do, however, have a question: Have you thrown both on Sport/challenge patterns or just on house shots? The only reason I ask is because, as we all know, several balls look very similar on most house shots. I'm just thinking maybe there would be more difference noticed between the X-2 and UC2 on tougher patterns. If your comparison already takes that into account, then it's case-closed as far as I'm concerned.

I just got an X-2 a week ago after it had been on backorder for a few weeks for my shop.

I've been missing a ball with a quicker change of direction down lane in the medium to heavier medium category. Basically a ball for when my Obsession Solid is too much cover and when my GB4 or short pin Proof Hybrid aren't dynamic enough.

On a modified WTBA Montreal, I had my best look in 4 weeks on the pattern with the X-2 and taking a used 1000 pad by hand to it in practice. Obsession had been too chuggy and other balls I mentioned above had been too smooth as well.

2 nights later, ended up shooting 780 with the X-2 during second shift house shot league. Was able to just keep moving left.

Started bowling on WTBA Mexico City 45' this week and again had my best look with the X-2 and 1000 pad.

Is there a strength difference between the UC2 and X-2? I think so, but I think the difference is fairly small.

The X-2 is looking very versatile for me to where I'm thinking about getting rid of my 900G Money Badger for a Hyped Pearl to get some more separation.

*Just to note, sport shot league I bowl is on a lower friction surface so patterns play 2-3 feet longer and house shot league is a higher friction surface*

Good point about house patterns vs sport patterns.  My UC 2 is first ball out of my bag on house shots.  Havent really found a place for it on multiple sport patterns.  More about shape than strength.

Remember the Rubicons are very mild asyms so it's more like a symetric ball with a weight hole. Big rev rates will see a lot more separation between the two, but I think the X2 is more versatile regardless of pattern and will stay in play longer. If you bowl mostly on house shots, X2 is a bit stronger but if you need to hook the lane the UC2 is cleaner and quicker but won't handle oil volume as well.

Has to be a longer sport pattern and break down some -- I'm not using it every time in my sport league.
