I'm DONE with the Helios
« on: October 04, 2022, 10:39:50 AM »
I've tried..... surface, speed, hand ...... can't make it work.

It's just too much reaction too late..... and for me that is over/under city.  I've watched it corner and get in front of the pins and puke.  I've watched it try to corner and die, move in and it never has a chance.

Strange thing is I like the Zen Master in that spot in the bag .. everyone else says it's too smooth .... my standard release has @20' of tilt so maybe that's the issue.

I bowl on a variety of house and challenge patterns on various lane surfaces.  Perhaps I haven't found it's place... but I'm done trying.  :(.

Anyone actually love the ball?  I look around the racks where I bowl and see NONE.

A friend threw it at a matchmaker a week ago,
2 hander lots of speed and revs.
He could strike with it nonstop and from everywhere.

I saw a lot of them when they first came out, but almost none now.

I only pay attention because I use an orange Motiv ball that looks a lot like the Helios, so orange catches my eye when it sitting on the rack or going down lane.

I've seen more original Idols lately around me than Helios. I think the Helios just ended up being more niche than expected.

I've had a couple people mention they like the Cosmos as a closer replacement for an original Idol

Helios is the biggest turd that’s come out of Utah since the Gravity Evolve.

I haven't been able to make an HP3 ball work since they introduced em with the disturbed. I'm cool with it.

Disturbed, haywire, ddTrick,  terrible for me.

Only the deranged mildly worked for me.

Didn't even bother with the idols.

Seems like it's well liked in my area, looks to be rotos IQ tour for me visually on the lanes
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I don't own a Helios but from what I've seen....very inconsistent. The only times that I've seen it work well is with speed dominant folks who don't shape the lanes and play pretty direct.

No wonder Buddies has them on clearance.

I got mine at the end of last season, threw it a few times, didn't like the reaction, and put it aside. But going to give it one more shot with polish at a center that has a lot of hold.

I haven't seen many people having success with the Helios around here. That being said, who wants to talk about what a turd the Ghost White Widow Pearl is? lol

I see quite a few of them in my area. It seems pretty aggressive.

In a summer PBA league, I watched a guy shoot 300 on cheetah with one. It wasn't the ball though, it was one of those days where fate smiles on us. Unless of course, he was "trying" to play a distinctly different line on every throw.

Yeah, we've got quite a few people here in CT throwing the BW Ghost and just about all of them are making it look pretty darn good.  A friend of mine just shot his first 300 followed by the best series of his life with it in consecutive weeks.  I realize that's just one guy, but I haven't heard anybody say anything negative about it.
Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

That Widow Ghost is a special ball when used properly. Because its a pearl, a lot of folks figure they can use it on light oil conditions. That's a No-No! Its a very strong, skid snap piece, that when used on medium heavy oil is a monster! Right conditions call for the right ball! The only way that I've seen people get away with using it on light oil is when a speed dominant person throws it.

I've changed the cover on mine a couple of times (Widow Ghost) because it's just an over/under nightmare for me.
