shooting star versus rising star
« on: December 04, 2011, 05:25:33 AM »
I have a rising star and I am crazy about it. I am wondering how the rising star compares to the shooting. I dont really have a ball stronger, maybe a couple of boards here or there ,but nothing substantial. I just got a mission x and it is really a waste of my money because it lines up right on top of the rising star,no difference for me at all, another big dissapointing purchase. So I am considering buying the shooting and drilling it 35 by 5 by 20 for a longer but stronger reaction. the rising is 45 by 5 by 45

I have both and they are both very different and dont forget that one is a hybrid and the other is a solid. I find the (solid)  Shooting Star at OOB which is 2000-abr is a very, very strong rolling ball, much stronger than my (hybrid) Rising Star which at OOB is polished at 1500-ab.

Both balls are very good ...

Summer arsenal: Now throwing ROTO-GRIP
Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

dont discount the mission just yet
you have options
adjust surface
have your driller add a weight hole if you dont already have one
I would think your driller would know what layout would be different than a ball you already have .

I have both and they compliment each other very well. Both are layed out the same and the shooting star is about 3 or 4 boards stronger than my rising star with the same great motion. The last two weeks I've used them in my league, starting with the shooting star and shot a 763 and a 771. The shooting star is a strong piece for me. A lot stronger than I thought it would be.

+1 on what Dave mentioned about the Mission X.  That ball needs heavy oil or it will simply not work well.  You may want to either add a weight hole to increase flare potential or change the surface to adjust how it reads.

The Shooting Star is similar to the Rising Star.  Rising Star will give you more length and more angle on the backend with its hybrid cover.  Between the Rising and Shooting Star, look for about 3-5 boards difference.  The Rising Star compliments the Shooting Star well from what I've seen.  Only issue for me is that I haven't thrown my Rising Star much this season so far since the house I bowl at is using longer and heavier volumes for oil this year.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 2000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Storm Anarchy: 1500 polished
Medium-Heavy Oil: Ebonite Vital Energy: 4000 AB
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished
Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock

Thank you all for responding. I don't want the mission for light oil so I don't want to polish it. I would have hoped it to have more separation so I don't want to polish it and weaken it
But I guess it couldn't hurt to try.
