Tonight will be my first shot at Cheetah.  The surface is 1 yr. old HPL's.  I'm kind of at a loss as to what to bring with me tonight.  I was thinking my Mercury but it is at the shop getting repaired and I won't have it for tonight.  The rest of my arsenal is pretty darn strong and I think may be too much.  I'll list what I have available to me and hopefully get some suggestions.  I also have a spinner and can make cover adjustments.

Odyssey- pin down, 4000 grit
Epic- pin down, 800 grit
Black Widow- pin down, 4000 grit
Horizon- pin below bridge, OOB
Green Gargoyle- pin above ring, 2000 polished
Silver Streak Pearl- pin above and right of ring, OOB

I'm thinking the SSP will be the ball tonight.  It gets very good length but is fairly smooth on the back.  Both Epics may be too much and they have never taken to polish well for me.  The Widow and Horizon are pretty jumpy, but I'll probably bring them with anyhow.

I don't know Rotogrip, but I know the Cheetah.  It's a short pattern, but with a fairly heavy volume of oil that carries down pretty badly.  The backends can get jumpy and squirty on this pattern.  The best results are usually found with balls that roll a little early and are predictable on the backend.  The key is taming the over/under.  You don't want the ball snapping through the face if you miss right or skating if you miss left and get it in the oil.  That being said, it all depends on the surface and who you're bowlin against and how you roll the ball.  I would advise bringing something sanded down to 1000-1500 and also bring something with a little smoother surface for extra length if necessary (2000 or 4000, or just something with a little polish).  And just remember the breakpoint WILL almost always be the 1, 2 or 3 board.  You will probably see some people trying to play a deeper line than that, and they might get to the pocket some, but I guarantee you'll be more consistent and carry better if you play the gutter shot.

I like to use my SD-73 drilled pin up 4x4. Surface at 2000 that normally works for me. Looking what you have your odyssey it may be you best bet. I like stuff that has a lot of flare to control the backends. Remember this is a risk reward pattern don't be afraid of the gutter.

I have seen a Roto staffer kill the Cheetah using a Saga drilled with a strong pin and mass bias in his track (the do not drill location)

The cheetah plays best with a solid reactive with the shine knocked off of it.  This will bleed off some of the energy and help avoid the over/under.  Don't be afraid to use a stronger ball than you think will work.  The shot normally is very close to the gutter.

I used an Odyssey at box,pin at 1:00 to ring, 4 x 4 on wood lanes and for 2 weeks averaged 210,playing up 13-10 at the arrows.

My first problem was that I was expecting the gutter to be playable but it wasn't.  I made matters worse by trying to force it there.  Once I finally removed my head from my rear end I moved into 8-9 and found something.  Even when I was playing the right line I couldn't execute to save my life.  The pairs in this house all play different and I just happen to be on one where 4 was OOB.  Some of the other pairs played more like I envisioned it.  Oh well, I'm there to get better and I certainly learned something.  BTW, I used my OOB original Epic all night.  The Odyssey was burning up and my Horizon wouldn't wrinkle unless I got it inside my target which was bad news no matter what ball I was using.

I would have to agree on 1 year old hpl's anything out side 3 should be dead left at the brake point. At least you found something file it a way for next week.
