Guys and Gals,

I had a long conversation with a gentleman today regarding the SD73. Granted I do get a lot of emails on a weekly basis regarding this ball and where it can be located I really wonder if there is enough interest to manufacture another one similar. This ball was first made in 1997 and stayed in our line for 5+ years. We even released a limited edition version of this ball with a newer coverstock and it actually did quite well, but we only made 500 per demand.

I know that the bowlers on this site obviously don't speak for every one in the US, but to give me a broad perspective I am just curious who thinks I should entertain the idea of producing another one.

Any and all comments are welcome as I trust your judgement.

Roger, since I missed the origional, and the re-make, it would certainly be one to have beside the SSP and SonicX.

I think it would be a great ball. I threw one a couple of years ago that my friend had, and absolutely loved it. Bring it back, even with a limited production run. I think you will sell out of them rather quickly.

I know that there was a lot of interest in the SD73, but there are other balls that I would like to see RG place ahead of it on the list of re-issued on demand equipment...

Topping that list, as you know, would be the Gold Grenade. I know that the ball pre-dates the Storm era, but I have to believe that Roto would still own the rights to the core design. Since we are talking about a limited production run, the urethane re-make would fill a gap that I think is lacking in the line-ups of recent years.

I kept toying with the idea of getting the remake and then all the 14# were gone. I personally like weaker reactive covers with strong cores as the have built in lenght and then arc once they start their move. I can't throw skid/flip balls. I had a blue retro briefly. It's a great ball but it hooked so much in the last 10 feet it was tough to keep in the pocket. I love the arc of your Sonic X pearl. That's my favorite ball!!

Put the Silver Streak Solid coverstock around that core and count me in for at least a case.... not to mention I get at least one request per week at the shop for the original. Per the conversation we had in Reno about Ebonite finally recognizing the benefits of higher differential offerings; I think you should remind them who is the King.

Customers like to see a positive change in direction and the SD73 did not disappoint.

Not that I know much, but both my friend and I would get an SD 73 if they were making them and we had the money.

Roger:

We sold about 100 of the SD-73 LE. I don't remember the interest being that high when the originals were on the market.

We have 1-16lbs left in our shop, and all of our warehouse are sold out of the Limited Edition. I am sure the solid would sell well as long as you did a limited run like the Pearl.

I personally would love to see a remake of the SD 73, but will second Bradley Hay's suggestion of making this one a particle pearl! Would definitely snatch up a couple of those!

If you are going to put out a new version of the SD 73 there are two important things you must do. First, put a coverstock on it that will have those big backends. That was the balls genre and that must not be lost. Don't we have enough particle stuff out there now. Keep a good snapping reactive cover on it they are hard to find. Secondly, you must make it a cool color because color does sell. Something better than the red/gray of your last ball. How about orange, whtie and silver or just orange pearl like the old Firestorm. If that don't sell 500 of them I'll eat what left.

Roger,

Would love to see another SD73 on the market. I have tried so many different ball,
companies, cores, etc. and I always return to my SD73 that I have had my best
games with (300, 297, 290, un-countable 279s). I even Email you on how it should
be resurfaced. I currently am still using my original SD73 Pearl that I have resurfaced
twice. I have a friends that he no longer wanted as a back up, 1 of the LEs, and
undrilled SD73 NIB 15# when these are no longer usable. I own a Rush, Retro Blue,
Def-Con II, and as I said have tried basically all the other companies top end balls,
Visionary, Track, Columbia, Lane1, Lane Masters, AZO and the rest. Have a garage full
of balls that i constantly lug out and try again and again looking for a replacement
for my SD73. So far not much luck.
