SD-73 Classic vs. Special Agent
« on: January 21, 2008, 12:33:09 AM »
Hey what do you guys think about this ball as a comparison.  I have a Special Agent but I have never seen anyone throw any of these SD-73 Classic balls.  My pro shop said they didn't know as much about this ball but looking at it, it looks like a low RG core and nutty flare.

I am trying to help someone pick out a ball that has pretty high speed.  He needs a good sanded ball and to get into a roll early.

Fluff,

I have the SD-73 Classic.  Mine is drilled pin over ring, 4-3/4" from PAP with the CG at 45 degrees with a weight hole.  OOB (1000 Abralon) is too much ball at my center.  I have taken it to 2000 Abralon and added polish on top of that.  Much better length with this surface prep.  I really like mine, but don't use it much in league.  I take it with me when I go to tournaments.  I like the ball.  I think that with a pin down drilling and some surface (say 500 or 800), it will handle a fair amount of oil, probably just shy of heavy oil.  Without the polish, it handled carrydown pretty well.  If you want more info, feel free to message me.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info...  The place we play at puts out a pretty good amount of oil for a league shot and this person can typically use more aggressive balls than most on lessser oil because of his high speed (speed dominant).

This ball seems interesting but the only thing that confuses me is the flare.  I wonder what that kind of flare is going to do to a reaction.

Fluff,

Special Agent is longer and more angular down the lane than your SD-73 would be.  Keep in mind this is more of a strong rolling type ball.  I definitely recommend the Classic to any speed dominant players with a strong layout.  Adjust surface as needed to move the breakpoint closer or further away.

Thanks,

Thanks very much for the input.  Roll is definitely what we are looking for, I am just curious what this crazy flare is going to do to the reaction.
