NEED A LITTLE HELP
« on: April 14, 2006, 04:00:43 PM »
HEY ALL, NEED SOME HELP WITH NEW BALL SELECTION. IM LOOKING FOR A HEAVY OIL BALL, THAT CAN HANDLE HEAVY CARRY-DOWN CONDITIONS. CURRENTLY THINKING ABOUT, HAMMER HAWG, TRACK RULE GP2, ROTO-GRIP EPIC BATTLE, COLUMBIA EPX-T1, STORM PASSION AND A FEW OTHERS.

IM A TWEENER, 18-19 MPH, AROUND 300-350 RPM, SEMI-ROLLER. CURRENTLY STAND AT ABOUT 15, THROW OUT TO ABOUT 10 AT THE BREAK-POINT, BUT HAVE TO PLAY STAIGHTER WHEN CARRY-DOWN IS EXTREME.

LOOKING FOR A BALL THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO OPEN UP THE LANE A LITTLE BIT MORE AND NOT SKID DOWN THE LANE WHEN CARRY-DOWN IS EXTREME. LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL HAVE A STRONG MID-LANE TRANSITION, BUT WONT BURN UP.

CURRENTLY USING:

COLUMBIA ACTION- AWESOME BALL, GREAT FOR MEDIUM-HEAVY, CAN HANDLE LIGHT CARRY-DOWN, BUT SKIDS TOO MUCH WHEN BACK-ENDS ARE SOAKED.

TROPICAL STORM- DRILLED FOR LENGTH, USE ON LIGHT CONDITIONS AND FOR SPARES.

STORM SUPER CHARGE- DONT USE MUCH SINCE BUYING THE ACTION, BUT STILL A GREAT MEDIUM OIL BALL.

DRILLING SUGGESTONS AND OTHER BALL SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

THANK YOU.

My recommendations:

Avoid the EPX...of all the problems I've heard of it, it's not worth the hassle.  Plus, the fact that Columbia has basically given up on it means that it's not worth it.

The stuff from the Storm plant you've mentioned are good ideas...the Passion and the Epic Battle are both really good balls coming from there.  I'd also think about a Dyno-Thane Vendetta Maxx.

As far as cutting through carry-down, take a look at an RS-X scuffed up to about 800, as that'll make it react much smoother while still packing the punch that that core has.

I will say this, and this might get some people annoyed, but avoid Brunswick...I keep seeing more and more than their balls tend to burn up extremely fast.

The other balls you have mentioned are way to condition specific for my liking, at all costs I'd avoid the EPX it's a complete failure not meaning to ball bash. The battle is an unbelieveable ball it is like RotoDave says, I do not ever want to put it away and with the right cover tweak and strong drilling I asure you that you'll feel the same. After 30 years of bowling I've never had a ball as good as this. Easy fronts, powerful midlane roll with all the pop you need on the backend it just seems that it's rolling down hill with no quit.
