Sonic Boom-How much backend?
« on: April 14, 2004, 11:34:02 PM »
Getting a Sonic Boom, and wondering just how strong it is on the backend.  I had a Silver Streak Pearl, but had to get rid of it, because it was too flippy, and too hard to control the breakpoint.  I have a Sonic X Pearl, and want that length with a little more recovery, and just wondering how much the Boom recovers so I know how to best drill it for my game.  Thanks for the help.

Drill it the same as your pearl .... you should easily get 3-5 more boards out of it!

How is your SXP drilled?

Agree with Jeffrevs, the Sonic Boom got great backend and great recovery, only probelm is hte medium oil with heavy carry down, which this ball wasnt design for.  Best condition is light oil with clean backend, it can handle atleast 4 games.  Just need to chase the oil and u can play really deep angle.

Good Luck and enjoy the Sonic Boom.

The Sonic X is drilled with pin next to the ring finger, CG kicked out to the right a bit for early roll, but I think I will drill the Boom for length, I just wanted to make sure in doing that the breakpoint will still be controllable.  Thanks for all the help, very informative.

OK fine, just make sure it's not too long...remember, longer = more retained energy which = bigger jump at the spot...

If you want / like the length of the Sonic X, ....drill the Boom the same....remember, same core dimensions, just different densities for the bigger diff and bigger hooking potential....

Got it last week, and drilled it for length just to see, and it wound up being just about perfect.  It does have some recovery, but definitely less than my Hot Wire, which is exactly what I wanted.  Sonic X, Sonic Boom, and Hot Wire, and I'm covered on everything from medium to dry.
