Sonics Rule
« on: September 20, 2010, 01:31:19 AM »
As I've said on here many times before, I just don't get to use my heavy oil equipment in most of the houses that I frequent. I bowl in four different houses, but about the most oil I see is medium oil, occasionally in Crofton, MD. I only get to use my big balls when I play tournaments.

All other houses I bowl in have lite oil to dryish conditions. Enter my Sonics. Lately I have been having great success rotating three Sonics for use in these houses. I have a SuperSonic, an UltraSonic and a Sonic-X, all 15lb'ers.

I have averaged about 225 the past three weeks using these balls exclusively, in a random rotation. They push down lane thru choppy heads extremely well, and give me a very good light-strike mix on the backends, even with super clean backends.

I have avoided the ringing ten-pins and solid sevens, others are constantly suffering with, in these same houses, and the use of these balls allows me to play the track with a strong sense of confidence.

SuperSonic: 7"pin;Drilling is 2"higher than ring finger, 3" right of ring(kind of a label leverage shift) CG is in the palm. Surface at 800..no weight hole.

UltraSonic: 3"pin;Drilling is 4.5"x 4.5" stacked. Surface is 2000, shiny....no weight hole. I had the ring finger drilled a little deeper to allow it to turn the corner more easily. This is a versatile ball. Good from the inside or down and in. It is also a hybrid piece.

Sonic-X: 5"pin; Drilled simiilarly to the SuperSonic. Surface at 1000, light polish. Truly this is the weaker of the three balls, but allows me to go straighter and play the track longer than most. No weight hole.

I know these are not the latest, greatest balls out there, but for me these balls are money! Thanks a lot RotoGrip!

Are those the Sonics I sold you like 5-6 years ago? If so I'm jealous they're still rolling that good. LOL. Good work.

Same set!

The Sonic X pearl explodes off the spot smashing strikes!

The Sonic Boom is very continuous and rounded and almost does not leave 7s on our 35 foot shot which morphs to 40 by the 3rd game!  7 inch weight hole from the grip center.

Sonic X solid rounded and carries as long as I twirl wide in the dry.  8 in a row the other day in league.  Many a possible 300 lately.  7 pins the only leave, always operator error!  Too direct.

@ DP3: YESSIR! They are! Once I played around with the ones you sold me, I went out and bought multiples of those same pieces. I now have three of each, some pin up.... some pin down, depending on how broken up the shot is. Thanks again! That was an extremely worthwhile investment!

@LuckyLefty: I hear you talk about your Sonic Boom often. That was the one Sonic I never got to try out! Sounds like a real keeper. Keep on stroking my friend!
If I ever see one on E-Bay I will jump on it!

A little FIG here!

This weekend on a wet shot I was firing for 278 going in to the 10th and opened on a right side spare(like I did every right side spare the game before).  I was not HAPPY.

Last night in league, Using my Sonic X solid, punched out after two 7 pins to start, (I went left with my twirl and went sheet after the first two pings) for 279 and then the next two for my Varippa.  First in a long time!

To note, Usually here in the second game I make a switch but my team didn't want me too.  I struggled playing left.  Finally went slightly inside and found oil at 12 and surprisingly carried this deep for a 5 or 6 bagger to finish up.  (first time ever  with the Sonic X solid it usually starts pinging here) which has consistently only been a ball to twirl left over the 10 or 11 board for me.  ( a consistent strike line for me with this ball lightly polished has been 10 to 4 by 30 to 35 feet).

I note the ball is getting duller and may actually be usable for a skinny inside line finally at about what looks like almost 1500 dull.

Nice bowling LL!! I like your descriptions as well, because I too, have found that if you "twirl" this ball like you said.....it gives you maximum carrry! For people with hand, or folks who want to play off the friction, this is a great piece.

Good shooting!

This is pin down with the pin touching the bottom corner of my ring and stacked.

That twirl or belly out early say 10 to 4 or 12 to 7 seems to make this ball very flush.  Straight up the boards,,,,ping ping ping 7 pin.

Jesse, you have been great guidance on these smooth little pills Thanks!
