Special Agent still rocks... Should I get a Cell?
« on: September 08, 2008, 11:17:19 AM »
Still using this ball...  It still works great.  My league in question uses heavier oil than I have experienced in any other house I have bowled in.  With my current ball speed (which has increased vs revs), the Special Agent is the only ball I can use in this league.

I generally like to have a two ball option on any given night.  I really want a similarish ball yet different type of reaction to go with the Special Agent.

All things being equal, will the Cell read earlier than a Special Agent?  Everything I read about the Cell seems like a ball I would want.  It's very affordable which is confusing.  I do see people emphasizing how much oil it needs which makes me think it could be exactly what I am looking for...

I've seen the pin carry first hand and its continuous motion is of course something that interests me.

It's definately earlier and smoother than the Special Agent.  It also will handle more oil.  I have replaced my Special Agent with both the Cell and the Dimension (Cell is pin down, Dimension is pin up) to give me two different looks on oiler conditions.  It's a great success -- the Cell gives me a smoother, earlier read when I need to play a tighter line or off the gutter.  Absolutely golden on PBA conditions or when there's a lot of carrydown.  My Dimension is similar to my Special Agent, but it is about four or five boards stronger, a couple feet earlier, and much smoother and more continuous than my Special Agent ever was.

That kind of sounds like what I want.  I want it to be different enough that I can have them play off of each other.  Kind of like what I do with my Mystic and Shift (currently using in a 2nd house with a much more traditional house shot).

I haven't even thought about the Dimension...  I thought I would go straight for the Cell because I thought that would be "more" different.  What do you think?

Fluff,

As far as I can tell a brand new Special Agent falls right between a Cell and a Dimension.  The Cell is a bit earlier than a SA and the Dimension is a bit later with more angle of entry.  All three are designed for a similar condition - they just provide different shapes.

Personally I am getting a Dimension to replace my SA, and if I think I need it I'll get a Cell.  The real reason for me is that both the Cell and the Dimension possess the new Storm/Roto characteristic that I want - continuous drive through the pin deck.

I think they broke new ground with the Cell and it's incredible drive. The Gravity and the Dimension seem to share that characteristic.

That's not been my case.  Very similar drills, but my Dimension starts up a couple feet sooner and drives harder to the pocket on the same condition as last year.  More midlane on the Dimension gives me a better reaction than the Special Agent.  But I will agree the Cell will be the earliest of all of them in general.

But it sounds like you had the same idea I did greenefam -- replace the SA with a Dimension (a newer, stronger, better SA basically) and complement it with a Cell.  Two reaction shapes for the same basic volume of oil, and both have that amazing roll off the spot and through the pindeck that we've seen out of the past handful of Storm/Roto releases.
