Roto Grip Rising Star Review

I had a feeling this was going to be a interesting release.  I am a big fan of the Riot and the Dark Star mainly due to the Ultimate Vision cover.  With the new Neutron core I didn't know what to expect from this ball other than the numbers indicated it would be stronger than the Dark Star.

The Rising Star turned out to be a really nice surprise. The best way I could describe this would be a similar controlled motion to the Dark Star but stronger than the Riot.  This is one of the best ball motions I have seen in a long time for my type of game.  I tested this ball on the Kegel Middle Road pattern, it gave me many different ways to play the lane.  Playing around 14 to 7 was by far my best look, it clears the fronts nicely and really picks up the midlanes.  One of the qualities I liked best was that I didn't have to move as fast as I do with some of my other equipment.

I then tried this ball in league the same night, our league shot is the Kegel Stone Street pattern. I started playing around 13 at the arrows with a breakpoint of 5 and I pretty much stayed there the whole night. I made a 3 and 1 move in the last game and that was it, shooting games of 259, 265, 256.  Once again the smooth motion and the ability to stay in the same location was absolutely amazing!

This is a great all around ball.  It is definitely a different ball motion than anything else in the Roto line.  Rev dominate and matched players will find this to be a GREAT benchmark ball.  Speed dominate players also would find a great use for this especially if the surface is changed.  Great job to the guys in Utah.  Video coming soon.

Hey Jimmy,

I am currently planning an arsenal to build with some tax return money and I'm thinking the Rising Star could be a part of it. I currently own a Storm Prodigy and an Ebonite Evolve. I would consider myself a power stroker, with my speed usually 16.5-17.5 on Brunswick speedometers and I would guess my rev rate at about 300-330. I only plan on keeping my Prodigy and going with a Team Utah lineup. The Prodigy provides me a smooth and strong reaction on medium oil.

Some definite buys for me are the Roto Grip Theory for heavy oil and a Grenade/Natural for Spares/Dry breakdown conditions. Would it, in your opinion, be wiser to go with a Rising Star and a Dark Star to fill the gaps between the Prodigy and Grenade, or would it be better to have a Nomad Solid/Dagger and a Rising Star to fill said gaps?

The Dark Star would be a good ball to fill that gap.  The Rising Star is much stronger than I thought it was going to be so it might be too close to your Prodigy as well as a Dagger.  Also in Storms line you could look at a 2 Fast or Tropical Heat Hybrid.

Jimmy, Can't wait to see the video.  I loved your Dark Star and Riot videos.  I threw them both at a Demo day last Summer knowing I was definitely getting the Dark Star and drilling it Rico.  I LOVE that ball!  I also liked the Riot, it seemed to be stronger than all the other equipment I threw that day.  If this ball is stronger than the Riot, I may pass on the Riot and just get this.
Current Equipment
Alpha Jackal
Jackal Flash
Primal Shock
Rogue Assassin
Revolt Havoc
Revolt Vengeance
Venom Shock
Blue Coral Venom
Fatal Venom
Dessert Tank

Hey Jimmy, the Rising Star will be my next ball, as soon as the shop gets their shipment it. I love your videos and I'm eagerly awaiting your Rising Star video. Is it coming soon?

I know it sounds like I'm in denial, but I'm not.

Jimmy drilled one up for me and I really love the motion of the ball. I think my next ball will be weaker ball because this ball does have a strong motion.
