I've been struggling a bit lately, my average is down about 5 pins from where it was in November/December. I've had several random good weeks in that stretch, but I've also had a lot of really bad ones. I finally worked on some things by watching a lot of video of myself in practice, and have shot much better scores since then, but occasionally revent into some bad habits. After struggling with the ball feeling awful in my hand on Saturday night (and shooting a
dismal season-low 530 in the process
) I took advantage of a night off from league (Easter) and didn't pick up a ball for a few days to clear my mind. Tonight was my first night of league since then. I really focused on fundamentals all night, keeping my knee bent, posting the shot, and keeping my hand soft and open at release.
255, 266, 290 = 811. Front 8 in the 2nd game. Stone 9 then off the sheet last game.
We had a
lot more friction than normal on the right lane outside of 7, so I took
my Cell and played inside of it, started crossing 11 out to 8 with moderate speed early, and was playing 14 to 8 by the end of the night with an extra mph of ball speed. It was really a nasty, nasty wet/dry on the right lane -- a two board miss right resulted in me crossing over and leaving a 3-7-10 in the first game! The other lane was much easier at the start, but they both broke down differently and without much warning. I had to stay on my toes all night to stay ahead of the transition. I had about four boards of area at the breakpoint, which is still a lot compared to a sport shot, but not much for a house shot.
Thanks as always to Rotogrip for making a ball as amazing as the Cell. It's definately in the running for my favorite ball ever! I'm just disappointed I haven't gotten to throw it much this season because of the lane conditions.
