Hey all,

Just drilled up an Ultra Sonic.  Just wondering what others thought of it.  I haven't had time to really compare it to my Boom, but from a quick 6 six games, it seems to be pretty close to it.  Just a little earlier than the Boom.  We will see though once I get to compare them more side by side for a longer time.  

The two balls are drilled differently though.  

The Boom is a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 drilling.  Pin up at about 1pm compared to the ring finger.  Cg about two inches below middle finger at about 5:30pm compared to the ring finger.  

The Ultra is 3 3/4 x 4.  Pin at 3pm compared to ring finger.  Cg below center of grip at about 4:30pm compared to ring finger.  1/2 inch hole at 4:30 from center of grip.  4 1/4 inches from center of grip.  2 inches deep.  

Let me know your thoughts on the ball.  Just wondering.  Thanks.

yes teach let us know....yes you should actually see the Ultra be a little earlier because of the side puck and the bigger diff.....

Thanks Jeff,

I knew it would be earlier because of what you said.  I was actually hoping it was going to be even earlier with the layout.  But such is life.  It still looks like it has a spot in the bag.  

Just a little to add.  Three more games by itself for league.  The ball does read the lane very well.  It doesn't seem to overreact to the dry at all which is good since the place I drilled it for gets very jumpy late in the night.  Power, power, power is all I can say too.  Almost too much in some ways.  Drives pins straight back, but does keep them lower which is good.

Still early, but if one wants to compliment a Boom, make sure the layout is different like I did, or it might be too close to the Boom.  

More to come as when I get the chance to throw it again.

Okay,

Had some time to compare.  I think that with the same drilling the Boom and Ultra will be pretty comparable.  However, with the more aggressive layout on the Ultra, it makes a little bigger difference than I had originally thought.  It ended up about 6 on the approach and 4 on the lane more than my Boom.  

The shape is difference as well.  The Boom scoots about two feet further down the lane before it hooks than the Ultra.  They both have similar backend to each other.  This was true in two different houses.  Both of course with the THS put on the lanes.  

As the lanes started changing the Ultra read the breakdown better than my Boom.  I figured that would be true since my Boom has always had a tendency to overreact on dry.  There was no overreaction with my Ultra on the dry.  Overall, the Ultra is a good compliment to the Boom as long as a different layout pattern is used.  Otherwise they may end up a little too close to each other.
