« on: January 01, 2007, 04:45:57 AM »
Well, befor I can do this I need some info from you guys on here. The info I need is some ball comparison suggestions. The base lise I want to do looks like this:

Robo Rule-Epic Battle
Mean Machine-Epic
Power Machine-Epic Saga
Arsenal artillary- Sd-73
Inetria-???
Solution PP-Horizon solid
Solution PPEX-Horizon
Desert Heat-Mercury

If there are any other matchups that you would like to see, let me know. You can even name a ball in the lines that I dont have listed and I will try my best to get them out to you.

I'd imagine the Horizon and the Artillery would be good against each other?

The cover on the Artil, is a solid/pearl blend and the horizon is a pearl, and more matched with the Solution power plus ex. This is stated because of them both being the pearled versions of their stronger counterparts. The artillary is mached up to the sd-73 because for me the artillary flares alot and the sd-73 is ment to flare alot. That is why they are matched up aginist each other.

Arsenal artillary vs. SD-73 Classic ??     Mismatch of the century...don't you think ??  Still waiting to throw my newly drilled SD-73...but it looks very soft, probably 7 boards or so stronger than the Arsenal

What I want to see is someone compare the SD-73 and the Immortal Solid. That's enough flare to last a lifetime in those two!

A guy in my league has the immortal solid...unfortunately he is pure stroker, I tend to like to try and rev the ball...not a fair comparison unless both balls in the same persons hands.  The Immortal Solid does move nicely though, but he gives it plenty of time to react.

I dont see a mimatch. I have watched a sd-73 thrown for almost 5 years, and i have seen how much it flares for my brother. I also know how much the artillary flares for me. I know I get at least 6-7" of flare on even dry lanes. I know when I threw it on heavy oil and it flared more then my Animal did. I use to flare that thing close to 11". So this match up is not going to be based on reaction but yet based on total amount of flare of a high diff ball v.s a very low rg ball. That is what this comparison is with the sd and the artil.

I'm not familiar with the Machines or Inertia (I had an Aggressive with this cover), but am very familiar with the rest and there are several mismatches.

The Horizon covers are way stronger than the Solutions.  Actually, I would place the Horizon solid stronger than the Artillery and the Horizon Pearl is such a strong pearl that it's probably closer to the Inertia (it can handle a fair amount of oil).

Since the SD73 is suppose to be stronger than both Horizon's you'll have to bump it up the list some, possibly up to the Battle.  I haven't thrown one yet so I can't compare.   I threw a friends Epic compared to my Robo Rule (similar layouts and both 2000 grit surface).  The Epic covered a few more boards downlane but that's to be expected comparing particle to resin.  I didn't keep the RR long enough to do an extensive comparison once I got my Epic.

Your efforts to compare these two companies will be a great service to all of us.

Seeing the core/cover work in comparison to its' opposite number by another company will really show the difference in cover strength if the core numbers are the same.

So seeing which ball really matches with which ball will be the thing revealed and perhaps for the first time you will be able to create a true way for all of us to judge the relative strengths of coverstock manufactured by two major producers - Storm and Columbia.
