Cell Drilled With pin at 11:00
« on: August 28, 2008, 01:02:02 PM »
With my pap at 6 over and 3/4 up, and me being a stroker, 13-15 mph, what type of reaction can I expect from a Cell drilled with the pin above the ring finger at 11:00 and the mb kicked out to 45 degrees. He says with this drill, I should be able to move out, when playing down and in instead of chasing the oil inside with everybody else.

That is absolutely correct. I have a cherry bomb drilled that way. I get exactly that reaction you stated in your post. It works well when the lanes start "flying".

I have a Supernova XP drilled like that from Beans.  I questioned it orginally also, but not anymore.  When the back ends start flying, I can move out to the 2 board and the ball will recover with enough energy to carry.

Thanks guys. That seems strange to me, but I guess I'll try it. How does the ball react on the fresh with clean backends?

But, cc, the Cell is such a relatively strong ball. I hope you have a lot of oil or a lot of ball speed.

FYI The SuperNova XP is not Cell. Not even close. I can see that drill working for Barry/Nicanor, but I know he has a bunch of ball speed.

I would have suggested pin over the middle finger to weaken it enough for the avergae bowler to play down and in. With your slow speed ... well, good luck.

CharlesT, that was my thought. If the head oil is drying or being pushed down and my kinetic at 2000 and strike machine at 2000 are both going through the nose, how can the Cell with what is suppose to have a much stronger cover, possibly make it down the lane from the outside without overreacting and going through the nose. My driller says it will. I question it. I have a gamebreaker or  a wrath xp that I may let him punch this way for me just to see how the ball reacts. Then I will have something to judge from.

I purchased the cell to use when I needed to move in and needed that extra turn to come back to the pocket and carry. Based on my understanding of ball covers and reactions, I thought this would work.

cc,

The drilling suggested up at the top should allow you to use the Cell to move in. It's a "weaker" (than normal, depending on your PAP), but not a weak drilling, as far as I can tell. If you can use the Cell at its stock surface of 2000 Abralon or even one notch down, 1000 Abralon or one notch up, 4000 Abralon, you'll have a great ball on your hand.

The drilling is not unusual and should work with enough oil.  Use it well and enjoy!
