5 Point To Better Bowling Seminar w/ Steve Richter
« on: August 27, 2006, 12:40:28 PM »
I attended this seminar in Sheboygan Falls, WI today and all I can say for those that thought about it in the Milwaukee, Green Bay, Chicago and Madison areas.......you should have!

What I got was a real good break down with Steve on my grip analysis.  Steve overall found my grip and fit relatively good.  I go to a great driller in my area and he shortened me last year with less reverse.  He did find an area which could use some attention more transition area in my bevel.  He did this to a Mercury and I could feel a big difference in how I come out of the ball.

Then, I got on the lane with Hank Boomershine - President, Roto Grip who worked with me and found my timing to late.  A common malady for a lot of players but when you hear it from a reknowned instructor who knows his stuff it sinks in.  Funny, I had been told the same thing from Fred Borden in the early 90's.  Same issue.  After doing some video before and after from the back and side I can see and feel the difference of the changes.  After the changes my swing is a lot more free and correlates to more ball speed an issue for me for years.  Hank said I'll probably be able to use more powerful equipment than I have in the past.  I concur.  As always changes in timing will take time but I am dedicated to changing so it's a work in progress.

I drove 2 hours from Madison but the effort and time was negligible compared to what I gained.  Instead of spending countless dollars on equipment I encourage any bowler to attend a 5 Point To Better Bowling Seminar if they are offered in your area or attend one with Steve when he runs it again.

Thanks Steve Richter for all the help!

I also went to the 1st "5 Points" last August. Shortly
after that I did a video lesson with Steve and after
an arm swing set-up and swing plane change along with
a couple minor set-up changes I'm on the right track.
Yesterday I was at the "advanced lane play seminar".
Hank presented lots on info.. some from last year.
Then went it to lane graphs and how to read them.
I feel I have a way better understanding on what
to look for, where to start and what ball w/layout
and surface for the fresh shots and break down.
We then went to the lanes for 30 minutes on each
of 5 patterns... US open,Masters, Nationals, Cheetah
and Shark.. Hank,Chris Sands, Steve Brinkmann, Ron Nelson
and Steve Ritcher each had a pattern and we moved to them.

In a nut shell, If and when there is a Roto Seminar it is well
worth the time and effort to get there. The knowledge and coaching
is worth more than just buying balls blindly. When you know what
to look for and your personal needs for your game, it takes out
lots of guess work and frustration.

Thanks Steve and Hank and the rest or the crew on hand for
all the instruction!! Outstanding!!

I also attended the seminar.
The class size was small so you could get one on one help.
For myself I picked up 3 new ball layouts that I can't wait to try out.
This should help fill in some gaps in my tournament arsenal.

Mike--Did you get a ball from Steve or just layouts?  What layouts are you going to try?  For B.I.G.?  B.I.G. flatter than MAST for the most part?

I've got 3 balls to drill.
Had a NIB Silverstreak with me on saturday.
The Horizon we got for attending.
Also I have a ball credit from Bob's Business for a ball cracking.

Had Steve R.(with input from Hank B.) put some lines on both my SS and the Horizon based on my PAP and having him look at my arsenal.

The funny thing about the whole deal was I'm looking at the ball layouts and Ron Nelson walks up and sees my SS sitting there.
He FREAKS out over it.
Says he's got to have that ball and then offers me any NIB Roto ball I want.
I look at Hank B. and Steve R. they both suggest a Epic Saga.

So now I've got a Horizon and Saga to go along with a ball to be determined.

The BIG tour in the past has been more demanding patterns than you'd see at a MAST.
Usually around even will make cuts at a BIG tour while you need much bigger numbers at a MAST.
I set my equipment up to bowl on tougher conditions and then try and make it work on house patterns.

I'll be drilling up my stuff with 6*3 or 5*2 layouts.
It will definitely look different.
Should give me a interesting ball reaction.

Lucky,

If you are nearby then I would suggest emailing Steve personally to get on a waiting list for the next one.

LL,

Steve is Wisconsin based but within large metro areas like Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay & Madison plus the Fox Valley.  It floors me that more folks don't take up Steve on his great knowledge along with Hank Boomershine and Chris Sand who were both there last weekend.

I believe you are in AZ. It maybe possible to find a progressive pro shop operator who is either affliated with one of the progressive companies and run something like this.  You'd have to have enough people interested to defray the cost.  But, it can happen you need somebody like Steve in your area to organize it and run it.

I drove two hours but it would have been worthwhile to drive double that for me.

Mike T.,

This is exactly what I am going to do with Steve R.  Arsenal evaluation and fill the hole/s.

Sounds like you enjoyed Sat. as well as I did Sun.  I bowl mainly ABT's that are sport/flat conditions no China.

Hold up 230 n up this year in BR scratch doubles....the rest of 'em like I said are dead $ against you wackers.

Well, first I have to thank Scotts, Tberk and Bass for coming on and posting their candid thoughts on the seminars and sharing their experience with the rest of the BR world.  With our marketing effort, we've been lucky enough to sell out all of our programs the last two years and each time I get more pats on the back and thank you's for it when really it's the personable nature and down-to-earth people that make RG a favorite amongst those that post here.

I would like to offer an open invitation to any STAR Pro shop to get in contact with me through Roger at Roto Grip if you need assistance in setting up a 5 Points or Video lesson program for your shop.  Please use your STAR Pro Shop benefits program to it's fullest and take advantage of this great offer they provide and be a HERO in your local area.

Again, I would like to say thanks to Scotts, tberk, and Bass for their comments.  Really, I appreciate you guys coming out and having great experiences and telling everyone else about these programs.  Slowly, and program by program we'll do what we can to spread the good news about Roto Grip.  Sometimes it takes the pro shop guys to step up and take a gamble on behalf of their clients to make a successful program.  STAR Pro Shops, I expect to hear from you soon.
