Suggestions for Theory layout
« on: March 08, 2011, 02:42:23 AM »
Just got a slighlty used Theory with about a 2" pin out distance.  Looking for suggestions for a speed dominant bowler.  The layouts I have been liking lately are; pin directly above the bridge or ring finger, pin directly below the bridge, and RICO.  Was leaning towards pin above layout for this ball, but wondering if I will end up with the cg being too high causing too out of regulation statics.  I guess they could probably drill the finger holes deeper possibly.  Also, Where should I put the mass bias?  I have much more experience with symmetric cores as in the past, I seem to do better with them.  Will be using this on typical house shot with synthetic lanes.

What kind of look are you trying to get from it? What oil volume do you have on your house shot? and....how fast do you wing it?

I drilled mine rather weak, pin above bridge, with the MB kicked about 2.5" right. The ball was still a monster on the THS. I was only able to use it on the fresh shot, because in the 2nd and 3rd games the ball burnt up. For speed dominant bowlers, it is typical to go with a stronger drilling to compensate for their speed. However if you are going to use it on THS, this might be a consideration to go the other way.

Is the fit close enough so that you can throw it reasonably well? If so, perhaps you can try it with the current layout, and we may be able to make more credible recommendations based on what you want the ball to do differently.

Ball speed is around 18 to 19 with just over 300 revs.  Our house shot is probably considered medium, but I want this to usable on a little more volume.  I realize I will probably only use it on the fresh and then put it down.  Hoping this might give me something I can move in a little more than I'm used to being able to do.  Not really sure of the look I'm after, but don't want something that is not going to be overly sensitive to the dry.  Leaving some surface on it should probably help some with that.

The current drill is for a lefty, so I can't throw it as is.

Dropped the ball off to get plugged yesterday.  I guess I'm going with the pin above the bridge and the MB kicked out from the thumb hole a bit.
