cover adjustments for Defiant?
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:20:17 AM »
Those of you that have a Defiant, how many of you have taken the cover down to either 2 or 1500k abralon? I still have mine in oob condition, but it seems to be going  a bit too long before it makes the move. or its burning up? I believe the cover adjustment will help. thanks for the input.

You may have to first take the ball down to w/e grit you want to see if it going too long was the problem, but if that does not help, throw some polish on it as this will be the cure for burning up. If this is a THS I'm guessing this is what is going to bring that baby to life.

it soulnds to me like it is burning up.

A couple of Roto grip staffers have used just a light amount of polish to great effect.

A follow up on RotoMike's post. The polished ball reviewed by staffer Ron Case was drilled and polished at my shop. The polish was put right over the factory finish BEFORE BOWLING with it by using the Storm Surface Factory Pro and running the polish mode for 3 min. I have also polished other Defiants for my customers using the ball spinner and Storm xtra shine with the back of a used abralon pad and water with FANTASTIC results, all over the factory finish without changing the surface with different pads!

Raiderh20boy,

Did you take the Defiant up to a High gloss finish using the xtra shine? I am going to try polishing mine as well as it seemed to be burning up on me on my 2nd shift league last night. Thank you

Todd,

I have also used the high speed on the spinner for about 15-20 sec on 4 sides and get a high gloss finish. So far, there has been very little track "burn" on any of the balls after 12-15 games on a THS whether done by hand or Storm Surface Factory!

Last night I added some Rough Buff polish to my Defiant and had 221, 268, 171 (missed two 10 pins). Ball rolled great with the polish and still destroyed the rack, I could not believe the amount of room I had. Before this, the ball was much too strong for a house shot. The 268 is my 2nd highest game to date.

I have not been brave enough to try mine polished yet as it works too well at 2000 grit, but my Critical Teory polished is the perfect compliment to the Defiant....

I polished mine slightly over the box cover, but quickly went to a 1000 wet sand as I didn't like how it rolled polished.  Mine is laid out very strong and I have no trouble using it on a THS with the dull finish.  There are others in the area that are killing it with some shine.  It seems like a very versatile cover.

I did try just a light coat of polish to the cover after i cleaned it. for most lane conditions it hits just fine. i have noticed that sometimes - depending on lane conditions, that i leave quite a few ringing 10's. when this starts to happen i usually switch to my Critical Theory.
