Thoughts on the Mars?
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:36:52 AM »
I'm looking for something for shorter patterns, or beaten down league/tourney shots.  How is the Mars?  I have a Venus, but it turned out to be far stronger than I expected, and has never really worked for me in these kinds of conditions.  It's nearly as strong as my Kinetic, and goes largely unused.  I had asked my Pro Shop guy for an Emerald Vibe, but he recommended the Mars instead.  Thoughts?  I have medium speed and revs, and I like to play the track and outside angles, though I can break it inside if the shot calls for it.  For shorter or broken down conditions, I'd like to see a controllable breakpoint, not a hockey stick with extra length.

Mars would most likely work, but I think the Razyr would be alittle smoother. the mars has pretty decent back end, and for me the Razyr is more controllable. I also have a 500+ rev rate so your reaction ball to ball will most likely be different.

I prefer the Neptune to the Mars for the conditions and reaction you describe. The Mars can get pretty darn angular off of the dry. The Neptune, IMHO, is more of an arc.

One more thing to consider...the AMF Angle pearl remakes are perfect for long and smooth on dry.

Have a Neptune drilled Rico for shorter are burned patterns. Rolls nice and is very predictable. Mars drilled pin over bridge,cg swung out about 30degrees. Took it down to 4000 and man o man does this ball fly on the backend if there is any friction.

I found the mars to be very testy and condition specific with a mix of over under. I have had better luck with my neptune.  I would agree with the two above me to go with a neptune

So this is sounding to me like the Mars is stronger than advertised, maybe like the Venus.  Maybe I'll just go back to the Emerald Vibe idea, not sure.

The Emerald Vibe is stronger than advertised too.  Most balls these days are!

I guess that's the rub, eh?  The good thing is this ball will be free, whatever it turns out to be, so I can afford to take a chance on something.
