Top Fuel still legal?

Looking for a NIB Top Fuel. I know the ball has been discontinued but a
friend of mine is looking to replace her 14# top fuel with another one. She took it into the proshop for a refinish and now it doesn't have a serial number.  Somehow they sanded it off completely. Is this still a legal ball?  anyone know where I can find a 14# top fuel or ball with the same type specs/reaction/cover
for a replacement

not sure...but why doesn't she just replace it w/ the new RS-X...solid reactive like the Top Fuel.......

pacrat, it is still legal. I have a test ball with no logo's at all, didnt come with any, and its still legal/

I thought there was a new ABC rule about 2 years ago that said a ball had to have its entire serial number able to be read for a ball to be used in sanctioned competition, or words to that effect.

As you know, they (the league or tournament secretary) copy the serial number down on the form submitted for any honor score. I guess the original intention was to verify the ball with the manufacturer. but I think that is not actually done.

I definitely think the ball is no longer truly round
because not only is the serial number gone but she
had he name engraved on it now the first and last
letters of her name are gone but the middle part
is still just as visible as before.  She says that
at her WIBC tournaments they always check for a
serial number before they can use the ball.  Don't
know how true this is.

I vaguely recall a letter ruling received at the Association level that addressed this type of situation and that basically stated that as long as there was some sort of identifying number, you were good to go.  It did not have to be the manufaturer's serial #...our local bowler had engraved something like a 3A and that was held to be sufficient.  Been many years though...confirm with Greendale.
