Two for one special
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:36:54 AM »
That's right. Just had two rotos crack for no reason. None of the other 7 balls with them cracked. The shooting star was already cracked around the bridge, but the crack continued for roughly another 8 inches, and my critical theory cracked THROUGH THE LABEL. Nowhere else is it cracked. The balls were left in the garage, but were out of sunlight and were never exposed to extreme temps or temp changes. Kind of makes me debate buying another storm or roto, as those are the only two brands I have ever seen split.

I hate bearing you had trouble with your pieces. Question, when was the last time you moved them?

I threw my critical theory within the last month, and the shooting star was thrown a month and a half ago. They were probably rotated for various reasons since then. Well, I could probably guarantee they have been rotated

Well, that definitely does stink. I personally have not had a single ball crack, and I have 30 Storm Roto pieces laying around. I do not rotate and often times pull a no no and leave them in the car. No, not all 30, just the 6 in my bags. I have a brand new Virtual from 2008 and a new Grenade from 2010. Both have given me zero issues. The rest of the rocks are 2012 and newer pieces. I know me being a staffer doesn't give me any more credibility, maybe less in some eyes as its what I am "supposed" to say. But I am straight shooting you. If you were a local to me, I would give you a deal on your next piece Storm Roto to prove they are durable. Sorry for your issues.

I have an outlaw that I still thrown without issues, except where a mishap happened and a belt tried to kill it in two places a couple years ago. I just sanded it down smooth, and it is still going without a hindrance to performance. Thankfully it wasn't on the track. My dad has a grenade, paradigm, and reign without any problems. I have seen a lot of good life from their products, I just find it odd how all the cracks I have seen from myself and friends have all been from those two. And I persobally believe being a staffer gives you a lot of credibility due to you having experience

How many times does it have to be said?

ALL COMPANIES HAVE BALLS CRACK. STORM IS NO DIFFERENT.

Nobody really knows why. Could be any of a bunch of different reasons, but nobody knows for sure why different balls crack, and others don't.

If you like the Storm stuff, don't let this put you off it. The next one May crack two days later, or it might last years. No way to tell which.

I know all balls will crack, it just seems like storm/roto does it the most often

Yes, perhaps for you it does. I remember several years ago, it seemed like there were lots of Brunswick balls cracking.

Had a Hammer ball crack all the way around once, and had a B ball with a small one I fixed before it got too big.

Good luck though. I hear Storm has good customer service, and might replace them if you go about it right. RG sent me one for a customer once, but that was years ago.

Any ball company that is on top of the sales heap will have more balls crack. More output, more chance of them cracking. Its just a numbers game.

In my experience I've had twice as many hammer and columbia balls crack in the past three years as storm/roto combined. I have stopped throwing hammer and columbia for this reason even though I have all of my honor scores with hammer and columbia equipment.

You have a climate controlled garage?
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

The garage isn't climate controlled, but the temperature where I live hasn't fluctuated much in a day, and it has not hit extreme hot or cold

How long have the balls been kept in the garage?

I have had a new undrilled ball crack that has never left the inside of my house. It happens for many reasons. One thing I have learned this years is that bowling balls never stop curing. So at any point in ball can crack-icide.
