New downloads from RG's website - time factor problems!
« on: November 03, 2004, 07:51:48 PM »
OK, mustang guy, what changed? I don't know what these *.aspx files are but even with a braodband connection and plenty of storage and fast CPUs, they take forever to download and to display. Something has to be restored or people will stop going to your website!!

Not sure if it was because I did this at 5:30 AM or not,but I doubt it.

The .aspx pages are Microsoft's .NET technlolgy -- the current "big thing" in web development.  I've found the .NET stuff I've developed tends to load pretty slowly the first time after a new build, but will speed up.  The site was excruciatingly slow the first time, but was a much faster load in subsequent tries....

The .aspx files get compiled on the fly the first time they're loaded, which takes a few seconds or more, depending on the size of the file.  After that, they should load more quickly than the equivalent .asp files.

Roto Grip & Storm are having a huge amount of traffic on our websites this week.  All the pictures on the website are standard jpgs and it isn't the site in general that is causing the problems.  Our server is connected to Storm, Roto Grip and our outlook email.  Due to mass emails being sent out regarding our new salesman and our new ball coming out in December we are running slow this week.

Thanks,

and what happens when you flush your temp files' storage area?

Are the "compiled" files stored there?
If so, do we again have to go thru the compilation stage?

No, they're compiled on the web server.
