For what it's worth, I got a Mars a few weeks back. It gets a ton of natural length thanks to the high RG, low diff core and the weaker shell, so I wouldn't drill it too weak or risk having a piece that's only useful on absolutely desert dry conditions. I put a pin down 4.5 x 4 type of layout on mine (pin under and right of ring, pretty generic kind of layout, with a flare increasing x-hole), and it's super duper smooth and very continuous. I loved it with the OOB finish on the Cheetah pattern (since the pattern plays more front to back than side-to-side), but on a house shot, I like a little rougher surface underneath a lighter coat of polish to prevent the ball from skating too much if you get it in the oil.
I bowled in my city's Masters match play tournament on a very nasty oil pattern last weekend (basically a reverse block with zero hold inside and a huge out of bounds around 10, and every single lane played a little different!), and the Mars was a lifesaver. After several games, everything started to read the friction entirely too early and I couldn't get the ball to push down lane. I switched to the Mars and moved back to where I started the day and had a pretty good look at the pocket. (I managed to finish 3rd overall for what it's worth) It didn't jump as soon as it found the dry, but still finished hard enough to carry the corners decently well. Not great carry, but nothing carried well in that house for anybody for more than one game!!
