This weekend I am bowling in a tourney at my local house and they will be using the Open pattern, 40ft flat pattern. My question is, what surface prep should I put on my Cell, I currently have it at 2000 but I was wondering if I took it down to 600grit plus polish if it would allow me to use is longer as the day goes on, this is 5 game qualifying, top 16 come back following day for 3 more games and then stepladder finals. The other catch is that the lane surface is wood with guardian heads and I can usually use my cell for a game and a half and then I either need to move way inside which my cell doesn't like, or switch to a pearl. I am also bringing my Neptune(pin over ring cg in palm) and Spitfire(Stacked) as well.
So what kind of reaction will I get with 600 plus polish vs. 2000 sanded? Will it be too erratic for this pattern? Will I be able to play the same area longer or will I even notice a difference?

A Cell with 600 + polish will skid flip, depending on the drilling.
With your delivery/release specs in your profile, the Cell is not a ball for the US Open pattern, in my opinion. Too early and too strong. With your revs and ball speed, you'd be starting inside the 4th arrow, maybe even deeper. I think a high pin with 5" pin-PAP, like a Mystic or an Illusion might work.
I was watching the Open today at Carolier. No body was using anything like a Cell at all. Guys like Malott, Sean Rash and Tommy Jones were lofting the gutter cap. Rash was doign it with a Rhino Pro.
I shot a pattern like it in ALbuquerque. I have less revs than you and I was inside the 4th arrow on fresh oil using a Buzz with a high pin.

From my limited experience on this pattern, sanded stuff is NOT the way to go. I was using my T-Road Pearl and Pyro, playing quite deep on a fresh shot. I was inside the 4th arrow, and I never ever play that deep. I would say get ready to use that spitfire and Neptune

Ok, thanks guys, I love the spitfire and am pretty comfortable with it on the THS at this same house but the Open pattern is a few feet shorter so I think the reaction will be even better than on the THS. I know I will use the Neptune as well, but I will bring the Cell and experiment with in practice. I thought I might try to play way outside(5 to 3) with the Cell since it is rolly and doesn't cover too many boards. I was thinking there wouldn't be many people playing out there so the shot would hold up for a while. I think I will bring along my Venus as well since this shot should carry down alot. Thanks alot for the info guys

After it breaks down it seems to be more forgiving inside, atleast on TV. I want to see what it is like playing up the 3 or 5 with my Cell to see what kind of reaction I get. Since it is so rolly for me I think it will be fairly predictable and keep me out of trouble as long as I make my spares. Once it opens up I will move inside with my Spitfire/Venus and save the Neptune for the later games.

I guess everyone's got to try it at least once.
Let us know what you learn ....

I will let you know how it goes. It cannot be any worse than last year in this tournament, I played inside and really didn't bowl well at all. I will try it outside hopefully playing a part of the lane no one else is willing to play, if it doesn't look good in practice I will be inside with everyone else in a heartbeat. Thanks for the input guys

I actually would like to bowl on this patern myself at one point, in my league that has 4 weeks left, they are going to do a usbc national pattern, not sure which one they are thinking, but I think it would be a learning experience for me. I do have a few balls that would work on this pattern.
