Venus - good ball ... so far.
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:37:11 AM »
Practiced 2 weeks ago with RG enthusiast and BR poster, Mark Curran. His carry percentage with this ball was phenomenal, to say the least, on a par with my Legends New Standard, although meant for different oil patterns, of course. So, to see what the story was, I ordered one.

Used it last night on Brunsick's Anvillane synthetic surface on medium-light to medium house blend. I won't go into details, so as not to jinx my future luck with this ball, but to say it had more than average carry power is minimizing the "goodness" of this ball.

What made it more surprising was its ability to kick out 10 pins while I was playing as small, slightly inside hook. It seems to have a wider than usual pocket area. I was trying to stroke the ball last night; so my rev rate was probably down around 250 rpms. That might have allowed the ball to perform better - not sure.

If you can check your bowling ego at the door and be satisfied to play a less than spectacular hook, I think most people will be pleasantly surprised. (It can hook a lot on a light oil condition, if you swing it well out into the dry, of course.)

For the money, this may well be THE value in bowling today.

Roto Grip "Entry Level" performance balls are the biggest bang for the buck in the whole industry IMHO.  These ball hits as well as stuff that costs $50 to $100 more.

The Venus is another ball I've had my eye on for awhile.  I have a gap in my arsenal for a particle pearl that can get some length and control on the backend.  I love how the ball looks, too.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...
