I'm looking for a ball to use when the lanes go dry and my black widow starts going straight.  I'm a stroker who's had some luck with the purple vibe, but am wondering if anyone has experience with the Venus or both.

I'm looking for a good dry lane ball to go long and then break in (hockey-stick style) to the pocket.

Suggestions from Roto Grip users will be most appreciated, but feel free to suggest something outside of the Roto or Hammer line.

i too agree with lilen and brandon r. that in the roto line, by design, the mercury would be the better general "dry lane" ball choice.  however, i've experienced the motion of the venus to my liking on drier conditions than i did the mercury.  both balls had the same layout and cover prep, but i felt that the venus was slightly more "forgiving" on the backend than was the mercury and more receptive to hand positon changes.  this was possibly due to the venus having the 1% paricle load in it, which seemed to "soften" the backend and not make it as "skid/flip" when the lanes dried out.

although i'm a roto grip pro shop staffer, i've recommended and drilled many vibes(more purple than blue).  the vibes roll well for all skill levels at the
center where my shop is located.

i'm sorry that you were confused by my response.  let me see if i can clarify...

yes, for my game and style of play, the venus is my choice.  however, for
most of my customers, it would be the mercury.  reason being, majority are
of the "rev, speed or both impaired" category.  the mercury allows them to still get good length, but still maintain a decent amount of angle of entry and continuation through the pocket, even when the lanes begin to dry.

regarding the vibe, it seems that the combination of a somewhat strong core
from the past combined with a fairly "strong" cover work well together at a
very fair price.  the ball maintains good length, but unlike some other balls
it doesn't seem to lose any "pop" or continuation on the backend.
