Venus: Will it work on broken down mediums/short patterns?
« on: August 27, 2007, 01:28:10 AM »
I've heard people say that this ball hooks a lot more than they expected.  I've been looking for something to go to when the tourney patterns I bowl on start to break down.  In my tourneys we play on flatter patterns and some PBA patterns.  Will the Venus work for a broken down condition when I get to the semis and finals and the lanes have a good 9 or more games on them?  I looked at other balls like the Neptune, but I have a speed dominant game and prefer a ball with at least a LITTLE surface as I can throw weak covers through the breakpoint.  Thoughts on the Venus?  Oh, and I already have one drilled and on the way, (Pin 5" from my PAP, CG at 60 deg) I'm just wondering what to expect!

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I think this should be an interesting ball choice.  I am wondering if this ball will be like a lighter-oil Mystic.  If so, this ball should work wonders.

I don't have a ton of games on mine, but it is drilled 4.5 from my PAP and under my ring finger and still goes relatively long for me. With your pin at 5", I don't think you will have a problem on broken down patterns depending on how much oil you start out on.

Mine is a lot stronger than I expected it to be. With that being said, OOB it could "probably" be descent going up a drier track with firm speed. Although I have gotten as deep as 6th arrow with mine. It is a good ball to go to when the overall pattern is on the lighter side of medium, during the breakdown (transition), in my estimation it is not for dry lanes. Mine is drilled 5 inch pin to pap, cg at 25 degrees. Cover is very tunable, I suggest working with different surfaces until you find a good matchup.

Sounds good so far.  I don't see true "dry" lanes much, if at all, and often find success playing deep inside when I do encounter them.  I'm more interested in the ball for broken-down light to dry situations, where there is still some head oil, but the track area is burning up.  I need a ball that will get length on this, but turn the corner controllable and be able to cut through at least a little carrydown.

I think this one may be a good idea.  I know what you are saying...  You don't want a dry lane ball but more of a ball for funky lighter conditions.

Definitely come back and let everyone know how it works out.

And if anyone has thrown this ball and a Mystic, could you give me a comparison?  PM me if you have thrown both of these as to not hijack the thread...
