Grand Illusion
« on: February 18, 2009, 02:21:59 AM »
Have any of the Roto Grip faithful had any success using
the Grand Illusion on drier conditions ?  I recently picked up
a GI but have not quite figured out where this performs best for
me.   Unsure of my PAP, ball drilled 45 degree, pin under ring,
Cg kicked out slightly.  Anybody's experiences with this ball
is appreciated.

Pin up it becomes a whole different ball, pin down it rolls a mile no matter duller or shiny when I use it.

Redrill it with pin over fingers 4 1/2 pin to pap and tell me it is the same motion?? But money you will think it is whole different ball overall.

I have a GI and it is drilled pin up over ring finger cg kicked out about an inch and I love it. I took the surface down to 1000 abralon and ended up shooting a nice 812 with it. I would agree with mrbowlingnut, pin up would be a better choice of drilling.

Btw I have a pin under bridge 5 inch pin to pap ball and a pin over ring 4 1/2 cg below below no weight holes either ball.

Night and day difference in each ball, i thought it would be great having a pin down after loving the pin up ball which was wrong I ended up with a too smooth ball that does not finish.

Maybe a weight hole would help but for now I just throw all my other stuff.

My GI has been a life saver.  Mine is pin below fingers, 5" from PAP with weighhole on VAL through CG.  Super smooth roll that just arc rolled for me.  I use it blend out the patterns and as my benchmark ball.  It's also a great compliment to the Cell cause it gave me similar motion downlane but more length.

I agree with mrbowling.  Pin below really smooths this ball out (which I prefer with my rotation).   As you've seen with Wes and Kretzer it can turn the corner with pin up layouts.

I figured I'd ask here since there's already enough threads about this ball.

I know it can be used on medium, I'm wondering how much more it can handle.  Eventually, I might be getting this for a new arsenal, and I'd like it to be my med/heavy to medium oil ball, even if surface would be necessary.  And even with a control drilling(I'm thinking 60 x 4 1/2" x 45).  My specs are in my profile if needed.  Thanks for any info you guys can share.

hey strike domination i have found that my GI for me anyways works best on the heavier stuff. mine is drilled pin up and to the left of my ring finger.i have a cell drilled the same way and the GI is stronger than my cell.go ahead and give it a try on the heavy i think you will be pleasently surprised good luck.
