Title: What ball compares to the Silver Streak Pearl?
Post by: Ric Clint on May 07, 2005, 03:31:50 PM
Probably been covered before... but I don't check here to often. But since the Silver Streak Pearl is discontinued, what ball replaces it?

I'm guessing the RS-1???

If so, how much difference is there in these 2? As far as length and backend?

RS-1 is earlier despite being a pearl and about 3-4 boards stronger overall.  The core in the RS-1/RS-X wants to spin up very fast so you'll definately notice a stronger read in the midlane from an RS-1 than a Silver Streak Pearl.  The SSP wants to lag off and use all of its energy for the transition to dry in the last 15 feet whereas the RS-1 will definately start up a good 3-4 feet sooner.

ok enough talking in circles, I think you get the point

Ric,

I had a SSP and a good replacement ball for that was the Retro Ressurection. Granted it is solid but it gets down the lane very well and is very strong on the backends.
I ended up replacing the SSP with the Retro (this was well over a year ago).

Ric,

DP said it best.....

And,...NOTHING "replaced" the SSP, ....however...the mid-priced pearl that filled that gap in the Roto arsenal was the RS1

Yes, Jeff, but I'm inclined to side with Excaliber on this: the RS-1 replaced the SSP in the line-up but its ball reaction is not equivalent to the SSP's. The Retro, with a light polish, will be able to emulate the SSP to a greater degree.

So since the RS-1 replaced the "gap" in the Roto Grip line but didn't replace the "reaction"... does Roto Grip have plans to bring out another ball that is similar to the Silver Streak Pearl?

Some of you are saying that the Retro Ressurection is similar if polished... but how is that possible? The Ressurection is a Solid and Silver Streak Pearl is a Pearl so wouldn't the roll be different?
