What ball to get
« on: December 10, 2006, 04:09:11 PM »
I missed another opportunity to shoot my first 700 series today. shot 176 258 231 for a 665. I used my RSP for the 2nd and 3rd game.  I have a hard time getting the ball to hook on the freshly oiled first game.  So I've been playing around between a command zone arc i got for free and my RSP for the first game with little success. I was thinking of getting the Epic Battle but am afraid it will be too strong since my RSP is just a label drill.  So maybe the Saga? Then maybe later on i'll get the Battle. Any thoughts?

Battle def. the way to go. I use mine first game and usually shoot in the 200's first game. the 2nd and 3rd gives me problems. Another suggestion would be to get a Horizon Solid. I have one sitting in my room in the box. I'll let you know what happens after i drill it, so that's another suggestion but def. the battle is a great game opener.

On fresh medium/heavy use the Horizon Solid you cannot go wrong with this ball, best cheap solid ball made period. I am ball whore and i now have 2 of these drilled differently, one cg out with a hole and they both rolled totally different. Same pin placements just the weight hole changes the reaction, so cg might not matter but weight hole sure does

The midlane read you will get sell you on this ball, i have 2 battle's they are good but really the are much more rolly. Battle rolls alot like the Passion i had, so maybe you have one of those roll??

I was called in to sub today, and so i went an hour early to catch the mechanic oiling the lanes.  I talked to him and he said its freshly striped and re-oiled he had no idea on deatails of the pattern bc the head mechanic programs the machine he just applies the oil.  i took a closer look on the lane and it seemed to be bone dry from the 1st arrow and out on both sides.  i usually play 2nd arrow or sometimes between 2nd and 3rd and i play pretty straight and just hooks in the end. Anyways i shot 203, 223, 266 for a nice but short of 700, 692.  Again in the first game my ball just slides and hits the pocket very light. for the most part. i tried bumping it off the dry and it worked somewhat but left a bunch of 10 pins.    By the middle of the second game i was able to straighten up and play the 2nd arrow line with success. Im really convinced i need a stronger ball because of the way the ball just skates down.  i bowl another league where there are a few people using house balls and the rsp has no problem with the carry down. I dont know maybe im just not warmed up enough in the first game and not getting enough revs. haha. but its christmas and i want to buy myself a new ball that will serve a purpose other than just having a new ball.

some of the most used balls were, Big One, Black Widow, Ultimate Inferno, Infinite One, Vapor Zone.  I dont see many of the good bowlers changing balls. the ones that i did see was an Scorchin then an Elite Alien, another guy was using a Hawg Wild then switched to a Doom Raw Hammer. i have no idea what this means or how their balls were drilled but hopefully its good info. haha

The guys that were switching started with a early rolling piece and went to something with a little more length.

Based on this info I would suggest a battle and adjust the surface to give you the best reaction for your game.

Keep at it and that 700 will come.

Hello Rotoheads,

Shot 658 today with the same old story.  anyways i wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Jeffrey and im 19. I started bowling serious for about a year now. By 'serious' i mean i went finger tip and been teaching myself proper form.  But i always try to have fun.  i my first roto-grip was an RSX.  didnt really like it much. too much over under but when it hit the pocket, it was over.  Then i kinda had an impulse buy when i baught my RSP cuz i got it drilled with inserts and everything for 135 i think.  yeah and i fell in love and now i think im sticking to just rotogrip. i have a couple of other balls that were hand downs but rotogrip is king of them all.  How did everyone here end up with ROTO GRIP?

I got into Roto last summer when I picked up a Sonic Boom in a trade.  Loved that ball, so I just recently picked up an RSP.  Both of them have worked out well for me.  I might pick up a Battle pretty soon to replace my hit and miss Strike Zone.

Was turned on to them at Junior nationals by a couple staffers and decided to give them a try when I revamped my line and created a tournament line. Love their equipment. Waiting for the Odyssey to come out.
