Just picked up a Cell (layout suggestions please)
« on: May 09, 2008, 08:44:51 AM »
Hey guys,

Just picked up a Cell yesterday (2.5-3" pin and 2.5 oz top weight) and was looking for advice on how I should get it punched. Right now I'm going with a three ball arsenal that looks like this:

1. Roto Grip Cell (?? drilling)
2. Hammer Black Widow Bite (pin above and between the fingers, MB in strong position)
3. Hammer Black Widow Pearl (probably same drilling as the Bite)

I have a medium track, and an estimated rev rate of 300-450 depending on how much I hit up on the ball. Usual line is around 15-18 out to the 3-5 board, but I can go as deep as the 25 and still feel comfortable. The two drillings I've looked into are 4x4 and 5x3 for the Cell. Any suggestions on what to do with it? I want it to be my first game ball on a fresh oily synthetic house shot, and will change to the Bite for game two or three. Something with decent length, with a nice strong backend is what I'm going for, but not overly flippy like my Bite is.

I would go with a stack leverage drilling. Pin around 1.5 inchesup and 1.5 inches over from the ring. Your game sounds a lot like mine and that is how I layed out my first Cell. It is a little strong. You may want to go with the pin up a little more to get it down the lane.

Thanks for the reply! I think that drilling would work well. It should give me the recovery I need from outside when I'm throwing faster.

Locke, I understand that layout is working out for you but it doesn't take into account the mass bias location or the distance from his axis point.

I would suggest a 4x4 layout with the pin up if your looking for stronger and smoother than your bite. The ball will not be really flippy, but it is strong and is a great ball to have as a control ball on heavier patterns.

Thanks magicmike. Anything other layout you would suggest that might work for me?

I described this layout the way I did because he has a game very much like my own from how he described. Also, I do not describe layouts the way people do on here because I use a different layout method that has been created by my ball driller that completely changes the way you look at your axis. So if I tried to describe the exact layout no one would understand what I am talking about.

Also if you wanted to I drilled a ball where I put the pin on pluto putting it on the grip center 3 inches above the fingers. I have the CG just under the ring finger. Then I have the MB just to kicked way out right with it about 1 inch below a line straight right from my grip center. That ball is great it lines up best with medium heavy oil and it REALLY gets down the lane.

Hmm, I don't mean to come off as a jerk but I really doubt your driller has a system that changes how people look at your axis.

I do believe though, if you have information that you feel is relevant as you say in your reply there that you should post it.

Just from all the replies that i've seen on here in the last few years its came off numerous times that people do not really know what they are talking about and come up with a story, if this is not the case, then I apoligize but it just comes off that way.
