Winner (pearl) vs Soniq
« on: November 05, 2018, 03:02:41 PM »
Just how much different are these two. With the RG and DIFF being higher on the Winner than the Soniq -- will there be a big difference? I am looking to use the Winner as a step down? Good choice or?

I have both.

OOB, they're more of a shape difference than a ball up/ball down. Soniq is very chuggy, Winner is longer and rounder. Total hook is typically near identical, unless I hit the perfect storm of oil for the Soniq to "show off" - enough oil to get the Winner to wiggle, without being enough to make a shiny Soniq wiggle. Soniq is slightly stronger in oil for me, but it's a fine line before it's wiggling too at OOB.

I have since taken the shine off my Soniq and left the OOB on the winner. The difference in shape is more pronounced, but the difference in use hasn't been for me yet. On house shots specifically, I like the Soniq on lower friction house shots and the Winner on higher friction house shots. It's more of an either/or than a ball up/ball down to me. I DO think there's room in the bag for both for people that bowl at more that one house.

I haven't tested the Winner on a sport shot yet, but I can see how it can be closer to a ball down from the Soniq on those conditions, especially now that my Soniq has surface. Sanded early ball-Soniq-Winner could potentially play well as a sequence on sport.

I got the Winner. There is a different movement between the two. Maybe a slight ball down, but a different way to play the lanes. I still think the Winner can handle drier lanes a little better. And the Soniq can handle more medium conditions. I like having both.
