How much does the RS-1 actually flare???
« on: December 03, 2004, 06:15:31 AM »
After checking out the website i noticed that it flares over 7 inches, more than any other storm ball i've thrown, including my El Nino Gold. How much does this affect the balls control, i am looking for a controlable, consistant, and constant turn in the back (if i do get this ball which im leaning towards)

VInny,

Maximum flare is dependent on many factors; most will not flare 7" worth.

Factors include:
- pin position,
- pin-CG distance,
- bowler's revs
- oil pattern
- ball surface
etc

say box condition, stacked drilling pin over ring 3.5 tw, 3-4 pin

Sorry, V, as you said, I haven't seen your new style (more speed and more revs) and I don't know what oil pattern you're on. More oil - depends on your revs and how soon it will hit the dry.

That's the strongest, max flare and, generally, max hook drilling; so, if you've increased your revs AND ball speed, you could get 1-2" in the oil. How much flare in the dry is too hard to say. It is a pearl; it won't flare much in the oil.

nothing that special about it, i'm just coming through the ball better and getting a little more leverage, i still have the same backswing and all, i also am able to change my tilt a little (basically if i want more top spin for drier lanes - but i will through my normal ball for most conditions with this ball)
