7:30 Placement
« on: March 09, 2008, 01:05:34 AM »
I just got a old Roto Grip ball and the drill sheet call for the pin to be placed at 7:30 in relation to the cg. I have never seen a pin in that position. Is this common in Roto Grip balls ? Anyone have a ball layed out like this ? If so what type of ball reaction are you getting ? I'm thinking about trying it and wanted some input. Thanks

I was at one time a full roller. And that layout is indeed a full roller setup.

Sounds like you only got part of the drill sheet.  If it's a symmetric ball, use their standard drilling sheet here:

Asymmetric drilling sheet is here:

Can anyone explain what a full roller is. Were you effective as a full roller ? Any suggestions on a layout for this Roto Grip Rush ?

A full roller tracks between the fingers and thumb hole.  A "normal" semi roller tracks more or less parallel to the fingers and thumb.  There's nothing inherently wrong with being a full roller, but it's almost never taught today.  It's a less versatile release and gives you less drilling options.  There was a high rev full roller that won one of the big eliminator tournaments a few years ago, so anything you do well can be successful.

First tell us something about how you roll the ball and what you want it to do.

I'm a tweener with speed about 16-17.I really want the ball to have a smooth arc. I don't have much luck with the skid/snap type reaction.
