Control ball - Cobra SE vs Blackout. Go!

Thinking of trying some Seismic (I know, I keep saying it, but I really do mean well!), and was wondering how those two pieces would stack up compared to each other.

In my opinion, the Blackout is the best control ball out!  At any surface.  Although I haven't thrown the Cobra SE, and have thought about it, but out of everything I have put in my hands, the Blackout is by far the best control piece out there.  second would be the Villain Pearl....I wish I can find a couple of those.  Third would be the Train, than the Grip.  The Nuts Pearl was smooth in my hands also.

But, if we are gonna assume the ball to be at any surface, than the Blackout is the choice.  I've had it at several grits, and could use it on just about any sport pattern.

If I could throw AMF, I'd tell you "Nuts". Blackout is money though, a little stronger than my liking. I prefer the Desperados.

The Blackout is too aggressive to be a control ball in my opinion. The Cobra SE is the PERFECT control ball. It's like a urethane ball on steroids.

I agree about the Blackout, for me, not being a control ball.
I first tried it pin in the ring finger, 80 x 4 1/2" x 50, with the stock 2000 grit + polish, and just redrilled it pin over the middle finger, 75 x 6 1/4" x 45. It went a little longer with little less backend, still shockingly strong, with the cover at 4000 matte.

If you want a Seismic control ball, try the Desperado.

I really like the look of that 2.5 inch pin, Gunny. That's the kind of look I would be hoping for with that ball. I've had several balls with that layout, and it looks like the core shape and cover would give me what I need.

I'm shocked to hear all of the "It's stronger than I expected" talk. Lots of people drilling them with strong pins due to the low diff. I guess the ball is stronger than I thought.

I realize that the Desperado would be the ultimate control ball. Thinking I might have to get me one of those. My Hype Urethane is just toooo strong.

I have a Blackout I originally drilled with the pin at 9 o'clock, which is a good control drill for me.  The ball did almost nothing and I realized I needed a stronger layout.

My guy redrilled it with a similar layout to Gunny's Layout #1 in his video.  The ball is very controllable and predictable for me.  I have experimented with many different surfaces looking for it to fill the benchmark slot in my bag and find the ball to be fickle for me and not that versatile.  But when I can find the 1-2 games where the ball matches up to the lane conditions, look out.  Nothing but strikes.

Overall, I find my Lane #1 Retro Buzzsaw THS -- another lower differential piece with a mild cover -- to be a better benchmark ball.  I can play anything but bone dry and floods with that ball at 2000 abralon.  The Blackout unfortunately is gathering dust.  It's too bad because I want to love the ball!

On the other hand, I had an OG Desperado and regret selling it.  The carry on that ball was phenomenal and unlike any other urethane I've thrown.  It is truly a short oil ball and if you use it as designed you will surely like it.

Wish I could try a Cobra S.E.  How can you go wrong with a lightbulb core?

with the hand that I have, the Blackout is by far the smoothest most controllable ball I have.  The layout helps a bit, but it is the smoothest, and most predictable ball I throw.  The only reason I haven't tried the Cobra SE, is the cover strength.  At F74, I feel the ball would be way too aggressive in my hands.  And after talking to Haugen Jr about it, and him saying it was an aggressive ball for him, I kind of strayed from trying it.  I owned the original Cobra back in the day along with the Bullwhip, and loved them, and was hoping to try these two.

also, some have asked the lane condition the day I filmed the Blackouts.  It was a light, 38ft fresh ths.  As a comparison, I filmed the Aftermath Pearl the same day, right after the Blackouts.  So you can see how much friction there actually was that day.
