From the looks of the ball it looks like its 500/4000. It looks a lot rougher than 4000.

Pretty sure 500/4000.

Oob Dominion is very strong and very early. Drill it to get down before it goes left...or right. Mine is drilled 70x4x40 and it is still earlier than what I expected. Love the hitting power and smooth read though.

yep, or put some polish on it ;)  I rock 3 Dominion's, 2 are at 2000 with polish, and one is at 4000.  The OOB surface makes the ball really strong.  In comparison, the Dominion is a step below the Epicenter with the same surface and polish.  I have not thrown one with the factory surface.

Always think your ball motion first, before you have it drilled.  Than decide surface and layout to achieve what your looking for.  For me, the ball is very predictable, and rolls just as true as the other Seismic pieces.

Gunny,

I agree with you 110%, but this wasn't for me; it was for a friend. I decided to pass on it but was curious as to the stock surface. He's tried the stock surface with no luck at 2 differently oiled houses. I suggested 500/1000/2000/4000 but he decided to try 1000 grit + polish and that didn't work for him either. Now he's decided it's a POS and will be selling it. There's onnly so much I can do.

an old topic, factory finishes are almost impossible to replicate. Just looking at the one I have left it apprears to have 4000 over 500, very dull or matte finish. Most finished like this use the 4000 abby for a very short period, used to roll the edges of the 500 over, this allows for traction or to keep the ball from skidding too far, but pronounces the recovery aspect of the ball. Very light pressure with very few passes with 4000 are generally used for this finish.

Too bad he doesn't like it.  It's a great ball!  What's the layout?  Just curious as to what the ball is doing that he doesn't like?  Get his specs, layout and what it's doing, and maybe we can help.

That's a pretty high flaring layout. That would roll super early for me. Not surprised it was that strong. 60 x 4.5 x 20 is about the highest flaring layout on an asymmetrical according to the blueprint study. You weren't that far off.

The main problem with long pins and asymmetrics is that they still flare a lot even with 5.5 - 6" pins, but, even worse, is they tend to roll end over end with those long pins and that prevents most people from using them to play deeper as you would with a symmetric core, UNLESS you have either a lot of side rotation (a la Pete Weber) or a lot of tilt. So long pin-PAP asymmetrics often force you to square up and play more down and in.

RB Is prepped about the same and works perfectly. Following any Blueprint in this sport especially with bowlers that are not average is folly.

I wasn't saying it was a bad layout, just that im not surprised a dull ball with a fairly strong core and that layout didn't go long cause that layout will produce a large amount of flare and will read the lane pretty fast....

Well with my ball speed most every ball with most any layout will get down then lane for me...i am usually trying to figure out how to get it to roll earlier ( see my RB/RBS video)

I watched your video you definitely have some speed. I understand why those layouts work for you. That fast reacting transition in the back definitely makes sure the ball gets into a good roll.
