Epicenter strength
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:24:44 AM »
How Strong is the Epicenter?

Is it has strong as say a Nsane? maybe a hair stronger? or the Virtual Energy or Bounty Hunter Pearl?

Thanks in advance!

Last time I looked this post had been answered .. odd.

A lot of people say its not as strong as a top pearl, but it does have a strong cover. The core/cover combo though, gets the ball to push through the mid-lane more than the balls you mention, which could be where the Epicenter is 'weaker'.

You should find it slightly later and stronger than your Solaris Pearl.

By far when i had my epicenter it saved so much energy for breakpoint it was ludicrous.  Huge backend ball.  Strongest pearl i have owned off breakpoint for med ths.

Here's my take on the Epicenter...

If you use the Epicenter on longer or heavier oil, it will out hook almost any pearl... its an animal!

If you use the ball on lighter oil, it will seem to not hook as much as other pearls, but the ball is just loosing energy early.. if you are finding this you will probably notice the ball loosing axis rotation and prety much roling out...

Hope that helps

(PS 685 with my epicenter in league tonight.. think thats the 3rd highest series of the league so far!)

Wow you said that better then I could. My epicenter rolls great on heavier volumes. I have one drilled stacked lev and sanded and it rolls great on fresh loner patterns. Once it starts leaving weak 10's I just switch to another one.

I just happen to have the Epicenter, Bounty Hunter Pearl, and Virtual Energy all with the same layout (roughly 5x4, pin over bridge, MB slightly right of thumb, weight hole 2" down on VAL).

The Epicenter clears the heads and mids with ease and pops hard on the backend.

The Bounty Hunter Pearl starts up earlier and does not move as hard on the backend. More of an arc reaction which provides control when you need it.

The Virtual Energy revs up bigtime in the mids, but still has the shiznit on the backend. I don't get to use this ball much. It's actually too strong.

The Epicenter is my favorite of the three because it gets down the lane effortlessly. I seem to have the most "miss room" with the Epicenter.

Alright, but I originally deleted my reply because it was strictly 2nd hand and not really enough to form a firm opinion. Here's my 1.5 cents:

I've watched my friend throw it a few times. He has a little over 300 rpms, maybe 325 and usually slightly less than medium ball speed. He has been able to use this on as much as medium oil and several different medium-light oil patterns. He keeps wondering why it doesn't work as well on more oil considering that it supposed to be close in strength to the Break Pearl's coverstock (I think?). That's in the 70s on 900Global's coverstock strength scale. He has been shooting "the lights out" with it over the past couple of months. So he does like it A LOT.

Based on seeing him use it, I was kind of shocked about BJI's review of the ball. they said it was for dry to light oil, rating it around the same as the Avalanche Pearl. I know it's stronger than that.

Pffft! Well, duh! LOL!
I shot 835 tonight (first 800 series) with another ball, so it's all good.

Look past the number. I didn't think I had to spell it out, but since you have failed to read between the lines, I will explain the intent of that post.

Drrev2000 likes poking fun because I made a trophy out of my Epicenter after I shot my first 300 with it. That's ok. I don't mind a little ribbing over it. I understand most guys would use that ball until it puked. That's fine.

After he took another jab at me for shelving that ball, I thought I would point out that there is more to shooting big scores than the ball. There are many good balls out there from a variety of companies. I am very happy with all of the 900 balls I have, as well as 900 covers on AMF and Seismic balls. When Seismic releases something else in this category, I will surely pick one up and see how it rolls.

I believe the majority of folks were able to read between the lines. I'm sorry I was not more clear in my intent so everyone could keep up.

I still think its not wise to put a ball on the shelf that was good enough to get you to a perfect game. Don't you think that if you went all this time without one maybe it is the ball that gave you the look? I shot a 300 2nd game out of box with  one and just had another over the weekend with the exact ball. Weird!
