seismic people
« on: August 22, 2014, 08:13:13 AM »
I am interested in the equalizer...BUT why would I go with this company over Roto Grip, Storm, Hammer etc...? NOBODY in my area sells this brand and NOBODY throws them here either. If it was that good wouldnt pro shops carry the brand? I just dont want to make a $200.00 mistake but I am interested. Do the covers die out faster then the major brands with routine maintenance? The question is .....For my fall season heavy / med oil ball Why should I choose this ball over a Sinister, BW legend, Optimus etc???
Thanks for the info in advance.

I'm not a Seismic guy, but I've had a couple balls, and there are a couple reasons nobody sells the brand.  Number one, it's a pretty young company, they're just getting their feet under them.  Number two, distributors don't usually sell stuff from newer/smaller companies.  People don't order it, there's no reason for them to carry it, which makes it harder to get.  Once it increases in popularity, then they might start selling it.  Plus, if nobody knows what it's about, it's hard to introduce new stuff onto a pro shop wall unless people know about it and start asking for it.

As far as the balls go, I had a Venator and a Raging Bull Long Horn, and as far as durability and performance, they are definitely up there with the rest of the major manufacturers.  I wouldn't let the fact that they're smaller and lesser known even enter into the equation.  I'd buy another Seismic ball again without hesitation.

What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

For some strange reason we actually have quite a few Seismic balls being thrown in our house. You wouldn't think a small alley in WV would be there target market. I own a Seismic Euphoria myself and really like it. That ball has at least 150 games on it and still rolls like new. The newer Venator and Equalizer are as strong as anything on the market.

Yeah, you can't make a mistake with Seismic. All of their pieces seem to roll very well, and the one I had (aftermath) was a monster. What kind of reaction are you looking for and on what lane condition?

The Equalizer, from what I've seen is a nice piece for heavy patterns. Smooth rolling and really digs into the mids. I would like it on heavy THS  and oiled patterns where you need the ball to dig in and not take off. If you are interested and feel it fits your game then try it. Everytime you make a 200.00 investment in a ball you are taking the chance that you may not like it.

As to the reason why shops don't really carry it, it's hard to take brands off the wall who sell, to market a new unknown ball. An easy way to push stuff would be to have the PSO invest and throw a couple of smaller companies and with a lot of them already on staff it makes it difficult to try stuff.

Seismic is a good company with balls that attack the mids. With everyone liking the Storm style of backend reaction, it's also difficult to market against.

Doom,
I'm looking for a strong piece that if I have to move left the ball will still recover. If I throw it hard it wont skid past the break point. The ball that gives me the best look on heavy is the Reax ( at first I hated the reax ) and the DV8 Nightmare also gives a great look. The balls I have now are Reax, Deadly Aim, Nightmare, Wrecker, Manic and Lights Out.

I really like the look of the Venator, but the new one they have is also strong. If you're liking the Reax, go with the Equalizer. Looks mean.

The Equalizer would be the bask to go with. Real strong piece but smooth and predictable. Send me a PM and we can talk more and if interested I can get your set up with whatever you may want from Seismic

why would I go with this company over Roto Grip, Storm, Hammer etc...?

Why not?  They roll just as good if not better.  From my experience, the roll a lot more "truer" than most balls out on the market.  What they are advertised as, is what they do.

NOBODY in my area sells this brand and NOBODY throws them here either. If it was that good wouldnt pro shops carry the brand?

In my area, a lot of people throw Seismic.  As a smaller/newer company, distributors are reluctant to to take on something new.  That is why staffers help get the product & word out, sort of like door to door salesman in the old days.  In areas where staffers are, you'll more than likely gonna see a lot of Seismic balls.  Some shops do carry the brand, but it's usually shops close by staffers, but most shops wont because of the popularity of the bigger names.  But trust me, you wont be disappointed with Seismic.

Do the covers die out faster then the major brands with routine maintenance?

I have not noticed any of this since I've been throwing them, almost 5 years now.  My Aftermath and Blackout have gone through several surface changes and resurfaces.  The Aftermath has been done the most, as that is my go to ball for sport patterns.  And now, I'm hoping that the Equalizer will take over the reigns in that category.  And just for info, the Aftermath & Blackout came out in 2010.  And yes, the newer stuff is just as good.

The question is .....For my fall season heavy / med oil ball Why should I choose this ball over a Sinister, BW legend, Optimus etc???

If you want a true heavy oil ball, the Equalizer would be my choice out of Seismic's lineup.  This ball really digs in the oil, and is way too strong for a ths.  I have a lot of hand in the ball, so when I throw mine in league, I am 4th/5th arrow at the start, take into account my layout is 80°x5"x20°, and the ball is at 4000 with polish.  Way overkill for a ths, but I want to throw it ;).  Shark was no match for it, and Kegel Route 66 wasn't enough oil.  So feel confident that it will do as advertised on the heavies.

Trust me, you wont be disappointed.

Nice reply Gunny. Ive been using Seismic the last couple years and love them all. They all still roll like they did when I first drilled them. Ive used a lot of different companys balls and for me Seismic seems more consistent and forgiving. The carry is just as good as anyones if not better. Don't worry about buying any of their stuff.

I have been using Seismic for well over 3 years now. I have tried several other big market balls to compare to Seismic and I never had the success with them like I have with Seismic. My three favorite to use have been the Aftermath, Epicenter and the Blackout. I was in a doubles tournament last year and you have to bowl 8 game qualifiers. I averaged nearly 240 for the tournament. We made it to the third round but unfortunately my partner just couldn't find his groove.
Don't be afraid to take a chance on something new. It's like anything...you will either like it or hate but never dismiss it....it could turn out to be a winner for you. I live in the Syracuse,NY area and I am the only person who throws Seismic and I am very proud to use their equipment.
