VENATOR DRILLING
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:34:10 PM »
Thinking about getting this ball. Its between the Venator and the Endless Nightmare. Im not a driller and I know the core of the Venator is such that minimal material is drilled out. Here are my stats (what I know anyway) Low track, 16mph approx 300 revs and my pap is 4 over and 1/4 up. I need a drilling thats strong and then I can weaken it if needed with polish etc... My league house shot is a modified Stone Street pattern with slightly more oil. A medium volume shot. My league avg is 217, sport shot avg 195. As a basic strong layout would it be pin down under ring finger (right handed) or pin up above the bridge? Mass bias near thumb??
Thanks

Without knowing you Axis rotation or tilt or seeing you bowl, I would pick the asym that you like the most and match the layout. I'm not a fan of pin downs on asyms unless the bowler has an extremely high tilt and I want to get the ball started to give them the help. It creates a large VAL angle for most and that controls the backend which defeats the purpose of spending $200 on a brand new high performance asym. Another thing is, why would you want to polish a strong oil eating asym to lengthen the reaction? Sounds to me like you dont have enough oil to begin with if you're even considering polish. What I'm getting at is there is probably better balls in Seismic's lineup to give you the reaction you're looking for without spending that kind of money and then experimenting with surface to guess if the ball works.

I think you should game plan with your driller first. Someone who's seen you bowl bowl, then if the Venator is something you want, then go for the gusto and drill it strong so you can get what you pay for. Just my .02.

The Venator is very strong ball even with its 4000+ polish oob finish. I am very confidant that you could use one of the three suggested layouts that come with the ball and be successful (all the layouts were set up to maximize the potential of the Tenaci core). Go on YouTube and look at the different staff guys and layouts that were used. As far as pricing you can a Venator from any of the staff guys one here for $150. In the end it is best to talk with your pro shop or another person that is familiar with your bowling style door best drilling suggestions. If you have any questions about the Venator or any other Seismic product please feel free to ask. We have several knowledgeable staff members on the forum.

Righty, the Venator is likely the strongest ball in Seismic's lineup. I haven't thrown the normal Raging Bull, but I do have the Stampede, and the Venator is 10 boards stronger overall. At 4000 with polish. With his little lower speed, and fewer revs than I get, it'd be a good strong ball in his hands, I'm very confident of that.

Appreciate the insight Trip. My post was more so to give 12 an idea of what he wants for the pattern he's bowling on. It just sounds like he wants to drill a Venator and that's cool. That's why I said pick the asym you've been the most successful with and match layouts.

Thanks,,,but its still between the endless nightmare and venator. I have a low track and that causes me to have reaction problems on the heavy / sport shots. So I need a strong ball that I can also polish up to weaken the reaction on a Stone Street pattern, and I can also sand (abralon) to 1000, 2000 etc...on the sport shots.

Your problem is not the Ball choice as it is the choice of Cover preparation/drilling. You have talked about using shinned-up strong drilled balls, this is where you struggle.  Take a close look at any ball video ever done, the strongest drilling is never more than 4.5 from PAP, in fact there are a lot that are 5.0 from PAP with very little polish, Polish in any form always causes Over/Under reactions when the lanes are in transition, this amplified for a low track because your release is placing the core farther away from your Axis and you will enjoy more Over/Under frustration. So, your looking between the Seismic & DV8, both are based on the same principle, less core drilled out for Thumb & Fingers on both balls, both balls are strong Asymmetric, the DV8 comes sanded, the Seismic is 4000 + Polish but if you sand them both, it's a wash between them which is better? Next on Heavier THS patterns, you need to place the Pin 4 inches from PAP & Mb in the strong position with a sanded 2000 cover for length & Recovery, Sport pattern requires Pin 5 inches from PAP & Mb closer to your Thumb sanded 4000 for length & Control, so what I'm saying is, your not going to be able to use 1 Asymmetric cored ball for both types of lanes unless your the kind of player that can change His/Her release, So buy 2 Venator's or buy 2 DV8's and drill/surface them accordingly.
