Anyone bowled in the SBA Tournament in Montgomery, AL?
« on: June 07, 2010, 04:27:13 AM »
Just wondering what the shots were like in the S/D & Team houses.  Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

I did today (6-12-10). D&S event is at Woodmere. It''''s a BRC center. Lanes are ProAnviLane without the downlane rangefinders. Shot appears to be a flat 10-to-10 top hat, no side-to-side taper, and at least 40 feet. It''''s not the easiest shot in the world. Two ways to attack it, either get inside with mega-hand, or fluff it up the oil line. Not a lot of friction off the spot today. Extremely speed-sensitive. House does not carry well at all for me. I''''ve struggled every time a tournament has gone through there.

Also, the air conditioner was broken today. Outside temps were 95 degrees, and it was around 85 in the building. Only one of three units was functioning properly. Pure hell, probably the most physically uncomfortable I''''ve ever been while bowling.

We had six people on our pair. One lefty, two low-rev strokers, three tweeners including myself. One of the strokers did really well in singles (761 handicap off a 172 average) but struggled in doubles. We all struggled. Only one game out of six for me was above 200.

Adjustments were strange for me. I actually got more aggressive with my ball choices as the day went along. Started with particle pearl (old Lane #1 Gold Nugget), spent most of the day with a Lane #1 BuzzBomb/R before finishing the day with a 900Global Break S-75 and an AMF Clutch Pearl.

You have very little miss room. House does not carry half-pocket hits at all. Better be flush, or hit it really light and mix ''''em up. Crossing over gets you nothing but trouble.

I shot 1111 for six, and that put me about mid-pack for the day, judging by scores.

Team is Sunday at Bama Lanes. They have newer HPLs and the shot is wide open from what I understand. It''''s typically the highest-scoring house out of the four in the greater Montgomery area. But if they put down the same oil pattern there that they did at Woodmere it won''''t be so sporty. However, I think each house gets to choose its own pattern and Bama will almost certainly choose cake.

Rolled team today at Bama Lanes. The shot is wide open there, although I didn''t take advantage of it.

Scoring pace is way up from Woodmere. Oil feels a couple of feet shorter, probably 38. Christmas-tree THS blend. Nice cold air conditioning, too.

Overall volume is a good bit lower. Bring something for dry lanes, especially if you''ve got some revvers on your pair.

Any number of lines will get you to the pocket there, and carry is better. Just have to repeat shots.

Anyone have any issues with sticky or slick approaches?  Did they get the AC fixed?

Thanks for all the previous info.

I didn't bowl this week, but I talked to some that did and the A/C appears to have been fixed.

Approaches at Bama are great. They're natural wood. Synthetic approaches at Woodmere and a couple of people had sticking issues. I did not, though.

Anyone see the scores posted for handicap singles leader??

Are these for real?  Typo?  Sandbagging at the highest level?  At any rate, I think that score is the safe leader in the clubhouse...
