I bowled this past weekend. Scores were really high. I saw the lanes a little different then Rod22875. The wood lanes actually "Started" out with less hook for me. But the heads were worn by the end of the first game, and our right lane was fried by the middle of game 3. It was an early hook nightmare. Almost everyone on our pair was deep inside. I pity the people that followed us. I thought that the doubles/singles house had a better shot, that lasted much longer, but was pretty dry to begin with. I was using one of my weakest balls, and I am not a cranker by any means. I thought that hold was the problem in D/S. I could miss outside and still hit the pocket, but pulls were a disaster. Carry was tough, although it looked like there was lots of good pin action.
I agree that the D/S house was much nicer inside, but what would you expect from AMF anyway. I always find it amazing that I will drive 7+ hours to bowl in a house that is a piece of cr@p.
On another note it appeared that both houses were non-smoking. What a welcome change from what I see in Virginia.
I heard a story about the guy who was putting up those huge handicap scores. Apparently he was in the military and was away for over a year. Someone got him to put up 21 games so that he could bowl. Wallah, a 21 pin average of just under 150. Now here is a prime example of the need to re-rate, but you know it just won't happen.
We bowled D/S at 8:00 AM Saturday and there were only about 12 lanes in use. We bowled team on Sunday at 8:00 AM and there were about 14-16 teams. I asked to be put in ALL brackets, and was only put in 6 out of 9. I just don't understand that, but whatever, just another nail in the SE Tourney coffin.
