May 3rd and 4th ... 1 hour from Lynchburg.

In the past the Vinton shot was a pie shot.

Well I hear that's Vinton's going to be just as easy this year too, Hilltop however may be a different story...

Hey guys, I live here in Roanoke. Good luck to all. Vinton is indeed an easy shot if you get an earlier shift. Be prepared not to slide much due to synthetic approaches. If it is raining, you might as well have a tennis shoe on. Otherwise, scores are high. Hilltop is good on fresh, then the transition can make it hard to carry. You can adjust and stay in the pocket, though. Once they start to open, the carry gets better. We bowl 24 and25 of May. Hope to see you there.

I am going with Bucsfan to the state tourney.  I bowled at these places last year for the State Mixed tournament, and I would agree with the summations of both of the houses.  Hilltop was the site for team last year, and I had a really good shot at all events, but missed easy spares to take me out of contention, then went on to shoot back to back 230 games.  The people before use at Vinton were all using their least hooking equipment saying that the lanes were fried.  We stepped up on the lanes and it was like playing the first game in league.  I guess this goes to show the volume of oil that different places are known for having, especially since the VA Beach area is typically known for being on the drier side for a fresh shot.

I bowled this weekend and it was not alot of fun for me.
Vinton for team event was horrible with the approaches. The shot was nice, if you could slide. I tried every pad and sole I had and I finally had to just plant and yank the ball thru. I did shoot 592 and win $100 in the boards. I was playing 26 to 12 and the shot did not change much at all. We bowled at 8am and had fresh oil.
Singles and Doubles at Hilltop was not as bad. For me going to where I could not slide and then going to a house with alot of slide was hard, but I finally got comfortable and I was able to shoot 630 in singles. The 1st 3 games the shot was open and slowly started to get tight. I just made adjustments but then the 10 pin became an issue. The 2nd 3 games for doubles found the shot was getting tighter, but still playable. I chopped the 5-8 off the bucket 2 times and left multiple 10 pins and end up with 562. The lack of spare shooting this weekend I could honestly say cost me 150+ pins.
Even with the 630 and 562, I won another $100 in the pots.
Again we bowled at 8am and had fresh oil. I was playing about 24 to 14 and had a very nice shot.
    Good luck to all!!

If you knock down 10 pins always smile,no matter how they fell. An X on the 1st ball is 1 step closer to 300.

Do you know why they are not posting the standings on the new site?

Are they posted somewhere else?  Would like to see the numbers prior to travelling down this weekend.

    Thanks for any help.
