AMF Starlite

Wondering if AMF Starlite in Reno will survive the AMF purge.  With the USBC in town for the next few years, will the Forty Frame Game have a home?

Reno has several other places it could be held. Grand Sierra would probably be glad to have it. High Sierra Lanes on South Virgina (across from PepperMill) could host it as well.

There is also Coconut Bowl (@ Wild Island) in Sparks.

Starlite has had it for several years now because they are still running the AMF Boss system which is currently still the only native software that can run the Forty Frame Game.  AMF/Quibica refuses to do the conversion to their newer systems.  The Forty Frame Game folks have a version that supposedly will run on almost anything, but it requires someone to keep score (a deal breaker for most).

Forty Frame game just announced for Showcase Lanes at the Stadium.  Wondering how much longer Starlite will be around.

Good question! When we bowled the Forty Frame last year, the place was a dump. It was the last weekend in June, about 100 degrees outside and the air conditioning was broken. It used to be a nice house, but these last few years it's really went down hill.

Wow.

Moving the Forty Frame Game to the Stadium does not bode well for Starlite. They would have had a slight chance if it were moved to Grand Sierra, High Sierra, or even Gold Dust West in Carson City, especially with them now working on I-580 as the alternative to US-395.

I would say that it will be closing down altogether within the next year, if not at the end of this winter season.

A friend of mine said the place is going downhill fast.  Reminds of the last couple years at Mowry Lanes in Fremont and how bad it got before they locked the doors.

Then I honestly wouldn't give it past Open, Women's Open, and Intercollegiate championships. Does anyone know how many leagues are still there?

There is a Match Club that bowls there, but I don't know if any leagues do.

Honestly, from the condition it was in last year during the Open, they should have shut the doors then.

Drove by on the way home from the Nationals.  Looked pretty lonely.  Some folks I know that have been there recently have said that it is getting the "AMF just about to close" treatment.

Puts it on par with it shutting down after the Open and Women's open tournaments. I'd expect it to go the way of Greenbrae Lanes by August.

Coconut, GSR, and High Sierra probably have most of the leagues in the Reno area anyway.  No need for a mismanaged and poorly maintained center.  Would not be much of a loss.

And that match club is either moving, or will soon move, to Grand Sierra, from what I've been told.
Was going to run inside when I was up there recently, but it appeared to be closed the one time I drove by.

Stopped by this past weekend.  Typical AMF current hours so could not get in to take a look.  Guy was outside painting the exterior.  Looked in through the windows and could see signs for open play and leagues.  The pro shop and the match club moved to GSR.
