Ca. State Tournament

Has anyone been to Bakersfield? I'm going the end of next week, 6/26&27. I'd like some feedback on the conditions if you have.

I'm going this weekend (19th and 20th), so I will give you a report next week.

I have spoken with a few people who have already been and get different responses of course. Some say the Team house is flooded and Doubles/Singles house is desert dry. As I understand it, the Team house is synthetics and the D/S house is wood.

One thing I have noticed from the CA USBC website standings page, the scoring pace is pretty low so far.

Regency Lanes dries up really quick. Depending on which pair you're on they may start off dry especially on the back end.

Southwest was a longer version of a house shot. It was very playable but the shot will change quickly if you are bowling with people that turn the ball a lot or use a lot of surface.

AMF Southwest has a 44ft pattern. It plays as a heavy oil shot. I had good success using my Cell(Original) at a 1000 Abralon surface, then went to a Mutant Cell Pearl(box finish) for the third game. I played the 4th arrow out to about 13 or 14 and you will have a decent shot. I shot a 227, 215, 235 for a 677 series. Out of our group(two teams), I had the only 600+ series and there were only two other 200+ games. Our other bowlers were using some pretty aggressive stuff (Bounty Hunter, BigBang, etc), but everyone had a problem with getting the ball to react.

Regency is a completely different story. It's an older house with wood lanes that are in reasonable shape. The pattern is about 36ft. The locals mentioned that it plays as a reverse block, but didn't seem that way to us. We all shot decent numbers in D/S in this house, however, I didn't score as well as I did in team. I used a Lane#1 Gemstone and a LaneMasters BuzzAttack, both with some success. From how I see it, you have a couple of options on how to play the shot. There is a really nice shot straight up the outside on the 4 board if you can play there. If not, move inside and play the 4th arrow out to about the 7 board using a ball with some surface. From my experience, there isn't a shot in the track like a house shot would have in this house.
