Do any of you bowl this tournament?
I'll be making my first rounds on November 20th at Noon.
-
Hey dude, I thought you've bowled this tourney already? Hehe.
You'll think it's fun. Very well run tournament by the Fanucci (sp) family and the Tom Crane at Granada.

I live five minutes away from Granada Bowl, so yeah, I do bowl the LVT a bit.

That would be cool if we could all get together and bowl
this tournament together one day.
We could all match up singles and Doubles and just roll.
That would be fun. it would be a big BR hang out. Then
go grab a meal at Cattlemens afterwards, ahahah!

Regarding traffic, finding my way out of the house is usually the toughest part.
Nothing is cast in concrete yet...I'm having a terrible time nailing people down on when they want to bowl...

I'd be down for that...assuming, of course, we have an easier time picking a weekend of LVT than we do trying to schedule an East Bay get-together.

i will hope to bowl well during the team event on saturday, 11/26 at 6pm. i heard that the center went to a short oil shot this year during league. i wonder if this will be true during the tournament as well. if this is the case, better bring that shiny stuff.

News to me, but knowing the surface at Granada, you're *always* well-advised to bring shiny stuff.

AHHA! Thanks Jim. Short oil shot geez.
Well in that house in the past from bowling 7 to the gutter has always been OB.
7 to 15 hooked. 15 to 15 was always a puddle. So everyone usually palys in the iddle and swings it out a little then to the pocket. It becomes a funnel in a way especially for the high rev rate players. plus the heads are worn and you can see it the ball burn up and change direction early especially on the second squad of doubles.
Let's see if we can get some BR teams together. If no one wants to bowl teams let's do doubles.
Cost is $20 bucks an event. But remember if you bowl doubles you got to bowl singles. There is no going around that.
-
OK, so now I'll ask the $64 question...
...Jonathan, when would you like to do this?

Well, it looks like my first go-around for this will be on the 19th of Nov. Just in time to win some brackets and pay for Thanksgiving Dinner.

There are essentially two events: Team, and Singles/Doubles. Reason I say that is because you can't bowl Singles without bowling Doubles and vice versa.
Team is five members per.
For All-Events, they take the scores from your first appearances in Team and Singles/Doubles.
There are *lots* of options...scratch for every event (but not All-Events), high game (hdcp and scratch), six-game Singles for the Singles/Doubles events, etc. Worthwhile, because if you have a good set, you can rack up.
They oil on Saturday morning, Sunday morning, and before every Team squad. So if you're planning on bowling at 3:00 PM on Sunday, be prepared to loft the cap.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Bracket Creep: Which lines do you recommed to use at Granada?
It seems that it is different from the left side of the house to the right side.
Especially 1 and 2, haha.
You were kiling htem with that Blue Impulse Zone last year.
It also seems everyone plays the middle and swings it out into the track.
Kind of like a wet/dry look.

Granada's always been kind of funny...even though the pattern they use for leagues is essentially a modified Christmas tree, the outside doesn't play as well as one would expect, because the middle of the lane is so beat up. I've seen so many people get fooled into thinking that they could bump the wall on the outside, only to see them run into severe over-under late in the first game.
I've found that the best way to attack them when they're fresh is to start inside the oil line with something with surface, so that when the ball gets to the dry in back, it won't jerk at the break. Once they start to transition, though, they open up quite nicely; oil pushes in the middle, and the track dries out. The more they break down, the more favorable the shot becomes. This is why I usually like to bowl Singles and Doubles at 3:00 PM, after two squads have bowled on them.
And oh yes, good catch on the difference between the low and high halves of the house. Granada was originally a 16-lane center, and the wood part of the lanes on the original 16 is 40ish years old. The high end was added in the late 1970s, and over the years hasn't gotten the same level of play as the original 16. They tend to put open play near the control desk, as well as the smaller leagues, Monte Carlo, and special events. In contrast, kid's leagues and birthday parties end up at the high end of the house. So if you're on the high end, expect the back end to play *much* tighter. They'll still open up, but you won't have quite the room to the right as on the low end.
Hope this helps. Bowl well on Sunday! I'll try to pay a visit if I can break free...

Wow. What an experience this time around. My buddies and i bowled
Singles and Doubles sunday at Noon. Bracket Creep and Ramtart bowled with my group of buddies. We all had fun. It was definitely challenging. When we got on the lanes they were fresh. Backends were super clean. Looked like your ball did a U-Turn down the lane. Ramtart and I were wheeling the whole lane. We didn't see any carrydown for all 3 games for singles. HAAH! Then we switched to Bracket Creep pair for Doubles. The middle of the lane had somemed oil all the way down the lane. It was nice. Finally got to square up and played a little swing. We all scored so so. Nothing great. We are all anxious to go back and try it again.
Who else is going to bowl and when?
I might be back this sunday at noon.

I bowled it on Saturday. Bowled all three events. Bowled well in singles, had a horrible reaction in doubles, and bowled average for team. All and all I ended up right around +48 for the 9 games. I'll be going back in first or second weekend in December. I'll find out next week.

Anybody else going to LVT?

LVT report for saturday at 2:30pm. the shot was different from what was described earlier. backends started a little tight with a light ob 5 and out. opened up a little as we got into the third game. we were on 3 and 4. most of us on the pair shot about average or a little under. the anchor on my team with a lot of hand opened it up in the third game for a 250+ game. will try to play it a little differently next time.
the match games at diablo for me anyway was much more playable. got decent skid with pretty good backend playing a slight swing from 12-8. got to cross with ramtart in one of the matches. it was enjoyable to meet up with someone from this site.
-
Thanks for the update Jim. Jon also messaged me this morning and told me he bowled on LVT this weekend also. He mentioned that the lanes played differently than the week we bowled on.
I will try and see if I can bowl team event again in December and give it another shot =)
FYI - Jim (bowl400) kicked my Arse in the first match of another tournament yesterday 267-216...hehe, nice bowling man!
Peace,
Ramil

hi bc,
if you want to bowl sunday morning, i actually have a gentleman (208) from our group who needs a partner for S&D. if you want to do this, pm and i will try to set it up.
-
9am is early, he hee.
-
just got an email from tom, we will probably move to noon. apparently, we were the only ones to pick 9am.
-
what usually happens is that some team will need somebody because someone did not show up for whatever reason. i have seen this happen several times. if you can find a partner however and there is room in the doubles and singles squad, they will sometimes let you sign up right then and bowl.
-
bowled again this past weekend. saturday evening team event 6pm, i was on lanes 17-18, others in our group bowled 19-20. so called flying back ends once again were not present. this time the shot featured tight back ends with mild ob to outside. did my usual 2 good (200+) and 1 bad (< 200). no one else fared very well on these 4 lanes. for whatever reason, i have never bowled well on 17-20. 1-16 and 21-32 i have bowled well on occasion. of course that is the reason why i get to bowl on those lanes every year. i think the tournament directors know this. anyway, sunday at 9am, our group was on lanes 1-8. i started on 7-8 where the carry was questionable at best. 8 played tighter than 7. once again 2 good, 1 bad. moved to 5-6 for doubles and bowled my best set, however once again, 2 good, 1 bad. although the 2 good were both 220+ allowing me to post a 600+ finally. i might mention also, almost always my bad game is game 2, indicating that i am not playing the lane transitions very well, but i am still learning. some day... anyway, will try again in january of 2006.
